help,,,I have had my af baby to two different loco doctors I still need help,,,from what I was told it runs well without the shell,,but when on the track it hums,if I move it by hand it moves freely,,,,i need a train doctor to send this to,who knows af pre war,,,,thanks terry

Be sure the brush tubes or the leads going to them are not touching the body.
thanks I did,i took the brass plate off,still did the same thing,acts like it wants to run but just hums.wheels turn freely,,,its a stuborn little guy
Yes Terry double check the tubes and the wires . It may be that the cloth covered wire has a bare spot that just happens to ground on the shell. Might need new wire? Had that happen to me and chased and chased. Put new wire in and problem solved. The bae spot could be anywhere in the wire. The cloth is really just an outer layer that protects the inner insulation. The inner gets brittle and breaks down then you can get that shorting issue even if the cloth looks good more or less.
