Hi Folks:

About 1 month ago we were alerted that a customer in Gainsville VA never got his 4 boxes of 2R F7 SF War Bonnet ABBA set.

It turns out that the address we had for delivery was a non address number 5501, no house there. But UPS managed to deliver the boxes to 5503 CATHARPIN ROAD, GAINSVILLE VA, a vacant house across the Street from our customer Thomas Engleman at 5504 Catharpin Road.

Since our customer was not well, this address wasn't checked for 3 weeks. When it was checked, there were no boxes to be found. UPS never alerted us that the address we gave them was not a valid address either. Their GPS system confirmed the box was left at 5503 Catharpin Road.

So if someone sees a rogue set of ABBA SF War Bonnet in 2R show up on Ebay, Craigslist, Swap Meet and the name on any UPS tags on the boxes says, ENGLEMAN THOMAS D., please contact us immediately at:  sdmann@3rdrail.com

Mr. Engleman is without his set and we are at a loss as well.

Thank You, and Merry Christmas,

Scott Mann

I hope the trains get found.

Anymore, I'm somewhat dissapointed with the delivery from all the major carriers.  We get packages delivered from USPS, UPS, and FedEx, and they get dropped on the doorstep, and the delivery persons don't even ring the doorbell, let yet alone wait for someone to come to the door.  Seems they get graded on the time on the time it takes to make a delivery and if they can toss it on the porch and run, they get a better evaluation.

I ordered a 2-1 tablet a month ago and after not receiving it in a timely matter, I checked on line and found the package had been 'delivered.' Further checking showed it had been delivered by the USPS to the U.S. State Department in Washington D.C.!

i dont know how you could fault the carrier if the package has a wrong address on it...5501 is a completely different location than 5504- Jim

Even with the wrong number they still delivered it to the wrong address.  Like the original post stated, there was no 5501 address, so instead of returning it to the sender they delivered it to 5503.  The carrier made the decision to assume that the wrong address was supposed to be 5503...while it's not the carrier's fault there was a bad address on the package, it is absolutely their fault for delivering it where they thought it was supposed to go.

The funny thing is I'm sure the carrier has delivered packages to 5504 before and using a little common sense they could have figured out the right destination for the mis-labled package

Well now, when I ship things valued at over $1000 including the El Capitan set I shipped back to GGD in Oct. I have to have a UPS employee accept the package and sign a form then take a duplicate form with the package and I assume the recipient has to sign for this package and the duplicate form. An ABBA set worth $2600 just left on the front step of a questionable address, the carrier has an issue above and beyond the wrong address

I definitely agree the carrier was at fault.  The package was supposed to be delivered to a place where there wasn't even a house.  They should have taken the package back to the terminal.  I had a package to be delivered somewhere once (sold an item on eBay) and I remember I had to select some options of where I wanted the package left.  At the door, with a neighbor, with someone else at that address, or with the recipient of the package.  So, for them to leave it at another house without prior authorization..I don't know about that.  I would file a claim.

Any package with a declared value of $2600 would have required a signature in person, at least with Fedex Express.  Meaning it could not just be left at the door.  Actually anything with a declared value over $500.  I believe UPS has similar rules.  I don't know what the thresholds are for USPS.  The whole thing sounds like it was handled improperly.

I've had packages with signature required labels sitting on my door with values of several thousand dollars more than once.  So much stuff is stolen from my area that I have asked that nothing be left at my door even with a trivial value.  UPS and FedEx things get forwarded to  local UPS/FedEx stores and postman leaves me a delivery notice and I have to go pick it up at the PO.    It is an annoyance but authorities will not do anything.  On the news almost every night are surveillance videos showing very identifiable persons taking packages multiple times from different locations.

I am not sure it would have helped in this case but its a good idea for everyone to register with UPS. I now get notified a day or two before a package is due to be delivered. I always have an option to waive signing if it requires a signature or to have the package left at their warehouse where I can go pick it up. Its pretty painless to set up.

State Department that's funny! I know its not but still it just tells you the reading level of some delivery drivers.  I been tracking a gift for my daughter. It was showing out for delivery. Next message I received is delivered to front door, in Ft Lauderdale Florida. I live in Gibsonton FL.  Good thing it was not a high value purchase.  As for the carriers all have a strict policy about deliveries especially if the addresses turns out to be an empty lot. Sounds to me something is not right.
