I ran across these photos on the web.

The caption is in error, there is only six miles of the Sacramento Northern electrified at this time.  The train is not actually backing up, the observation car is a control trailer and has a full set of controls to run the train in the back. This operation is in Northern California about 50 miles from San Francisco, but except for the windmills, the country side has changed little in the last 100 years, which is how old this line is.

Plus, the Sacramento Northern right-of-way image is in a MUSEUM environment now.  The Illionis Railway Museum uses old Elgin and Belvidere (bought by Bion J. Arnold in  1906, operational 1907) right-of-way and runs interuban cars on it, but that doesn't make it a surviving interurban system.

The CSS&SB is still an ACTIVE passenger carrying interstate interurban system.

I think CA&E #308 running at the IRM was built in 1906, but I could be wrong.

That is right, I forgot to say that it would be the oldest gas interurban.

For reference, here's the CA&E #308. It's a great experience to ride any car that was built when Teddy Roosevelt was president.
