Just bought a TMCC F-3 A-A NYC Diesel set from a forum member-LOVE these Locomotives. Both units have 2 American flags mounted on the fronts. The way I run/handle trains they are sure to last about 6 1/2 minutes before they get broken off. Is there any way to remove them and not break them. I want to use them on my scratch built buildings instead. Thanks, Nick

On my Santa FE TMCC F-7s, the flags just pull out of the holes. They are not permanently mounted.

Rather than remove those, you may want to consider just buying some new ones directly from Lionel parts department. I had to replace a couple that had broken on my WM Legacy AA and got them directly from Lionel. They make a few different styles and sizes, so make sure you get the ones you want. I believe they came 2 or 4 to a re-sealable pouch and were inexpensive. If you get stuck for a part number, re-post here and I'll try to find it.
