Thanks for sharing the cool pics, Dorcie!

I was fortunate to see this setup when you had it on display at your shop in Dallas.  I remember the first time it was featured in a magazine, I noticed the well cars had 90's-vintage 48ft containers on them.  (Con-way,etc).  I thought to myself "What a shame they don't have containers with current BNSF  customers"

Now it appears that somebody has either gotten a custom run from Lionel, or repainted and decalled them into current "Swift"  Schneider" and "Yang Ming"  schemes like you currently see on the rails.

Any comments on that, Dorcie?

Great pics darce! In years to come( and I do mean years to come ) when warren and roger and you are all retired. These layouts will be highly sought after just like the old lionel dealer displays are and once were. Would love to do my facia like that some day! Would also love to own one,but the asking price at an auction then will be starting out way beyond what my social security checks will be able to cover. Any chance I can get in you and rogers will some how? Just kidding! Keep up the great work all!!

I would very much like to know how the skyscrapers and various low-relief modern industrial buildings are made. MDF? Plexi? There aren't nearly enough BIG building kits available in O, and I'd be willing to sacrifice fine details to get an affordable-yet-imposing skyline.

By all means, let's learn from you in the magazine, Dorcie.

To see the layout in person all ya gotta do is go to the TW Trainworx layout festival in Dallas in September (I think).  A bunch of us were there last year and it was great.

I'm sure Dorcie will be sending out a notice soon.

And it gives you an opportunity to donate to a worthy cause (Ronald McDonald House last year.)

Hi Martin,

You are very observant and correct about the containers from this year's BNSF train layout. Part of the benefit of having a relationship with TrainWorx is the ability we have to handle ongoing changes, enhancements, etc. to facilitate corporate marketing needs for any of our clients.

Process goes something like this... BNSF supplied us the artwork, existing Lionel branding was removed, Traingineers repainted and applied custom made decals on  containers.

All of the trains on the BNSF layout were donated by Lionel making them an official sponsor of this magnificent layout...(Buffett's description...not mine )

I hope we'll see you for our second annual Layout Festival! Mark your calendar - - - September 14, 2013 - Saturday - - - > Dallas, Texas

Thank you Allan!!

I'm still going through and editing the pictures - - what is your email and I'll send you pictures soon!

Thanks,

This is the same layout that we had at our Layout Festival and last year's Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder's meeting was where it made its debut.

The fine folks with BNSF are going to let us showcase their layout again this year at our annual layout festival - so excited for this year - we're getting quite a line up....more on that soon!

Hi Alan,

The models are made out of MDF, Acrylic, and Laminate. Each one is cut with our laser cutter and custom painted with custom logos. While at the show, it's fun to have each of the BH company representatives walk around the layout in search of their company. The recently purchased Oriental Trading Company didn't make it into this year's line up so for sure - they will be included next year along with who knows??????

Very nice work!!!! And considering it's a corp owned layout makes it even more impressive as there are not many things that stick out as wrong other than nothing but BNSF stock....but that;s understandable!

Custom rolling stock is easy to get.make. All it takes is CASH.....and anything is possible. At one time I did prototypes for NASCAR die cast models. We often had to have decals or dry transfers made. They looked just like the production models....but were pretty costly for an individual to create.

I was privileged to attend this year's meeting. We made a bee-line to the BNSF layout around 7:30 am (you get up EARLY for the Berkshire meeting) only to be blocked by the scrum attending the Man Himself. A extremely nice layout from Trainworx. I had a couple of quibbles (very minor from an person who is a "scenic obsessive").  Also a couple of suggestions... but overall, quite impressive. It was very pleasant to meet Roger and congratulate him on his remarkable work. Very nice indeed!
