I am excited to announce The Virtual Legacy Users Group Meeting hosted by our friends at Lionel Trains!

The recorded event is posted above.  Thanks everyone for your questions and tuning in.  Special thanks to Dave Olson, Mike Phillips, and a shout out to Sadie for making this happen.  Hoping we can make this a regular event.

Thanks everyone.  I am really excited to do this.  We haven't had a Legacy meeting in some time due to scheduling conflicts, meeting place availability, pandemics, and so forth.  Well this eliminates all of that.  While I always love seeing everyone in person, I think this may work out better at least for getting information out there.  Typically we never based having a meeting on Lionel attending, even though they never let us down and always attended, Base3 is just way too new and advanced to try to do something without them. If the chance to do another in person meeting presents itself, we'll be all over it.

Until then keep the questions coming.  We have 2 full weeks to "stump" Dave.

Thanks Marty!

My question regarding the Base3 is if it is going to have an antenna port?  I seem to remember reading somewhere that this feature was going to be added after the field testing at various clubs, but it would be nice to have confirmation.  My club is considering going to Base 3, but we have to have an antenna up high to get signal reception from our Cab1L's and Cab2's due to the number of people concentrated around the control area, and while a Base3 would look cool on a pole 8-9 feet in the air, human nature combined with gravity is a recipe for expensive replacements.

I'm just cross posting my comments from the YouTube channel so others see what was brought up. Marty already acknowledged the questions on YouTube - thanks.

For those already with a Cab2/Base2 , are there different options for adding the Base3? Does the Base3 replace the Base2 and the Base2 becomes dormant with the Base3 the only component now connected to the track?

What about folks with LCS devices - do they unplug from the Base2 and connect to the Base3?

I need to re-watch videos, but what if anything needs to be re-done if moving a setup from Cab2/Base2 to a Base3?

Does Lionel have any plans to open the Base3 up to external applications/devices such as other web apps, mobile apps, desktop apps, controllers, etc?

I also hope they are committed to cleaning up the website on all the legacy/LCS/command control documentation that just 404's now!

This is one of 2 reminders for asking questions that I will post.  The other on Thursday.

The deadline for questions is Saturday October 28th at noon.  This will give me time to add any questions to the list before sending them to Dave for review and answers.

Thanks to all who contributed so far.  We're up to about 30 questions so far, the repetitive one I only count once, but I expect more so get them in early.

@MartyE I'm not sure if you got my questions or not so here's an official post:

1) How will 2 digit and 4 digit addressed locomotives interact on the same layout with a CAB3 system? Will we have to address everybody as a 2 digit locomotive?

2) Will there be support for third party customizing of the app? Specifically, will we be able to get info on where touch buttons are in the app? Will there be mapping options to use video game controllers or controllers for the smart phone?

I keep track of the YouTube comments and here.  I've harvested the YouTube ones as of last evening and will get the forum tonight.  Then add from the next few days.

Again thanks everyone.

Will the app be a simple CAB-1/CAB-2 emulator or will it access a typical smart phone's features to enhance the operation of a Legacy equipped layout? Things like using the camera for optical cab number recognition and being able to customize the user interface would be a step in the right direction.

Will future Legacy development allow for more user control of features? Being able to adjust the brightness of LEDs and the volume of background sounds and crew talk would be examples.

Will the ability to change or update sounds and features in future Legacy locomotives be supported with this system?

Will the app be able to support 'gamified' features like unlockable achievements and 'easter eggs'? Example: run your new engine for an hour and unlock a custom menu icon?

Sorry if these questions may have been asked already!

OK Base3 enthusiasts,  last call for questions.  I'll be cutting them off tomorrow at noon so I can compile, combine like questions, and organize them to send them to Dave.  I also try to correct as much grammar as I can so they read better but never change the context of the question.  In total between here and YouTube we have about 35 questions.  I have a few of my own to add.

If any come in afterwards it will be my discretion, depending on the question whether we present them during the live event.  I think we have a good sampling of concerns, thoughts, and questions.

Final reminder!

LUG Virtual Event

Today , November 1st at 5pm on Lionel's Facebook page and YouTube channel we will have the first Virtual Legacy Users Group Meeting.

Join me with Dave Olson where we talk all things Base3 and Cab3 App.  Dave will give us a presentation, a little demo, and answer your questions about the new Lionel Base3 and Cab3 app.  We hope you join us and you just may see me embarrass myself on a much bigger stage than Alexander's Restaurant.
