I cant seem to find a supplier of PRR streamline trucks for post1948  cant find actual part # so unsure, just know they cant have a shock absorber got a leaf spring instead. If I was modeling an earlier Pullman the pictures in the Pullman standard plan book show the Napoleon hat trucks. Blardones PRR paint guide shows a streamline truck with decelostats and no shocks, springs. If anyone knows the PRR code it would be greatly appreciated, better yet a source for prototypical ones would be sweet. THANX

I have the Keil Line kit for the PRR 41 NP truck.  They make 3 versions of the truck - the PRR one is 48-4889.  It is a rather complex kit with lots of well done white metal parts.  It comes with steel wheels and brass axel bearing inserts.  The Wasatch trucks are indeed beautiful but I don't think they have the right version for PRR.  PSC has several PRR trucks for heavyweights but not the 41NP.

Have you found white metal strong enough for use?  I have a pair of beautiful ATSF trucks, but use them for display only.  They look really fragile.

If you can tolerate one piece truck sideframes, you can have your own cast in brass or bronze.  You just make a single master, 4% larger than scale, and send it to Stevenson along with money.  If you do not like to work in brass, you can do it in plastic about 5% larger, and have a master made in brass via the lost plastic route.

Sadly, it's not.  Supposed to be a 40 degree drop tonight comnig through so maybe a good time to get into the shop!

In response to  rheil the picture #29, pg 27, and #47, 48, pg 41  show streamline cars with the 41np truck this is the period I can find decals for thanx to Al Smalls, The Pullman fom as built picture #70 pg 65 shows Napoleon hat trucks as delivered. How long would those trucks have remained on  the car would they have made it to repaint to Dulux 3 stripe repaint? so for now any model I would show would be incorrect on this point and probably many others. Such a learning curve at least I'm not painting my vestibule steps black anymore. Once again I must thank everyone on this forum for their help and knowledge. Dang I was almost done with City Of Cincinnati  and was gonna use the MTH scale wheels streamlined trucks and now I'm staring at shocks that shouldn't be there. Why was PRR so against shocks? After looking  harder the brake servos are incorrect too.  Everything has been discontinued or is wrong! I can't ever win guess I'll have to start building freight cars NAHHHHH! still any body get a line on 41np please let me know.

Unlike the NYC, the PRR did not have a mass replacement program for type 43-R (Napoleon Hat)  passenger car trucks carried by most prewar built lightweight passenger cars assigned to PRR trains.  Many rode on 43-R trucks until the end of their service lives in the 1960's.  The PRR code for their common postwar truck (without the shocks) was 41-HR .

Guys,

The PRR truck in question is the PRR class 2E-P5. The only correct version I have found is the Keil Line truck that Ed has shown. It is a nice replica, but a little tedious to assemble. Once complete it seems to be rather durable and able to withstand use on the railroad. This truck was used on the 1948-1951 rebuilds of the P70 coach into the P70fbR (porthole toiletroom version). They were one of the smoothest riding trucks ever produced and lasted until the cars were finally scrapped. They were used under other classes as well, but I don't have my list handy.

It is a shame they are out of production. If I do more PRSL P70fbR's I'll need to track some down.

Buzz

So after much research looking at the Pullman - Standard book and all its photos is it safe to assume that streamliners built by Pullman in the 37, 38 time frame can use the 43R type truck and due too PRR practices that truck would have stayed with the car until scrap ? If so then a Pullman 4,4,2 and 12,4 duplex sleeper built in the first batches for FOM would have had 43R trucks as best as I can see the photos in the book show this and on page 142 it states Virtually all Pullman built cars from 38 had these trucks . So the only place I'll have trouble is the 12,5, duplex which is from late 40's and came with the 41NP.  If my assumptions are wrong please let me know O wiser PRR minds. If this is true I only need 1 pair 41NP and next years cars are in the pipeline. with not much left to source. Once again I cannot personally express my appreciation to all the great people on this and other forums who have helped fill my brain. Now if any of you hoarders out there would like to part with just 1 of the Keil line kits name your price remember there a beast to build. Also the 43R trucks are still available from Keil line I await an answer and will purchase 2 43Rs and start scrounging for the 1 41NP I need. thanx again to all
