I stumbled upon Ray Stuber's layout plan not to long ago, and I was just wondering if anybody has tried building this track plan? It looks like an interesting design. Can anybody see any pitfalls or things they'd change? I'd want to keep the 16'x12' size the same. No room for anything bigger.

Thanks!

My first go around with O scale I collected only scale equipment from the tradition era. All my motive power was command control. Aside from some brass shelf pieces. I still have all of this stuff neatly stored away, or displayed.

This go around the Lionel postwar bug has bitten me. And bitten me hard! Just coming out of HO, the toy like wonder of the postwar trains has been a welcoming relief from the HO rivit counters.

Biggest problem I see is multi train operations .  If you want to sit back and watch more than one train at a time you might be in trouble.

I caught that too. Multi train operation is always preferred. The simplest solution seems to be adding an outer perimeter track somehow. Working around the elevations on the northwest corner of the layout would be the tricky part.

Loved that track plan from the first time I saw it in CTT  --- I think it's because of the postwar flavor the illustration has

Would love to do it in Super O someday --- sort of a giant dealer display

However I do agree with others ---  I think it needs some type of outside loop for two train operation

That was my dream layout, expanded to have O72 and larger curves, to accommodate scale equipment.  However, expanding it to that size would have required more room than I had since my home, like most in Amarillo, does not have a basement.  I just could not make it work, and changed course.  Roger Farkash of TW Trainworx designed and built a different layout, which has worked well for me.

If I had a whole-house basement, though, I would have built a modified Thrice Around the Room.

Where were the conservationists when basements were being ruthlessly hunted almost to extinction across the country after WW2?

So I built the layout using Atlas' track planning software. I went together somewhat easily, Definitely had to utilize flex-track in a few places.

However, I added an outside loop. So now two trains can be run simultaneously. I'd probably have the outside loop with O-72 minimum, to allow for scale equipment to be run as Tom mentioned. Thoughts?
