I purchased a Railking 4-6-0 and matching Overton car set from online auction bay. These were listed as new. They were manufactured in 2012.

I’m no expert and haven’t been doing this long. But from what I have learned from this forum and talking the the guys at my LHS, I think they may have been run some.

Does the pickup roller on the tender look like it has been run? The roller on the engine does look brand new, but it looks like the slide plate on the front is wearing.

Hear are two of the pass. Car rollers.

When I run a  cotton swab over the wheels I do get some black but not completely covered in black.

I don’t have a TUI. I only have an Explorer so I can’t check the run time. I guess this is another reason(excuss😏) to upgrade the a TIU before I buy another engine.

I am asking more from an educational standpoint. They look great and I got a good price for them even if they have been run. Just trying to learn.

They have been test run, but only slightly run. That could be a good thing as it might mean that everything works well. There was a story that at one time, MTH tested every loco they received from China.

It could be a bad thing as it might not have worked well so the seller dumped it.

Do you plan to run it or will it be a shelf queen?
