I believe the SP MP15 was only available to Golden Spike Club members so being that 2-Rail models are more scarce to begin with coupled with the fact that only Golden Spike Club members could order them makes them rare birds indeed.

Someone on this list said that they spoke with someone from Atlas and that Atlas had plans to announce another run of the MP15s this year.  The NMRA National is this coming week, so we'll see what Atlas has in store...

Rusty,
I think you are right, the SP MP15 was not a Golden Spike Club exclusive, I found this link that shows the Belt Railway of Chicago as an MP15 Golden Spike Club exclusive for 2009.

I missed the MP15 in UP when it was released, Heck I missed on any of them. Guess I was poorer than than I am now. But with little being released that interest me I am able to put funds away for something nice. Last year I did find on Ebay one 2 rail  15 in UP and bought it used. It would be nice to have another, different road number to run doubled up.

It is so hot here now and the window A/C unit I had for  the layout died on me and replacing it is almost $400. Bad enough I hear my house A/C making horrible start up noises so after 13 years it may need a new compressor and that will definitly hurt any cash I might have wanted for down the pike model purchases as they are charging $85 a pound for freon. So with them numbers I can wait on Atlas to make any models I truly desire.

I'm a huge Mopac fan, so when the original release of GP15s didn't include Jenks Blue, I stripped and airbrushed my own which included making my own decals.  Sorry for the BN, UP and CR units, but I wasn't sure if and when Atlas would make an MP version, especially in 2R.  Not to brag too much, but my custom units looked better than the Atlas Mopac release, so I wound up selling the factory painted ones.  I have four left , so if there are any Mopac fans out there looking for a GP15-1 I might part with one.  Four GP15s and a dummy MP15DC are a bit much for the office shelf layout and my wife found out that O-scale in the office doesn't match the N-scale empire in the basement.

I would like to see pictures of those Tim. Always liked the MoPac...

Here are a few pics of the Mopac GP15-1s.  These were shot with Modelflex MP Blue (16-86).  I think my cab decals turned out OK and I included the '58' maintenance code I believe the GP15's had.  I also made EMD builders plates and fire extinguisher decals.  Sill striping and chevrons are 1/8" white stripes.  I'll try to take a few more pics in the near future showing a better side view and the road number decals, which were also made on the PC.  Thanks for asking!

Thanks Adam...sounds like it would be at home on your layout.  There are pics of MP GP15s leading coal trains from the So. Illinois mines over to the coal docks, which was one of the scenes I imagined recreating on a future O-scale layout.  I've pretty much given up on a large layout for a while given my N-scale focus, but will hang on to a few of these guys for a future switching layout.  I'll shoot some pix and send them over in the next day or two.

Hello there from New Zealand. I just picked up on this thread re the Atlas/Trainman GP15. I'm most of the way through converting a 3 rail version to 2 rail. It took a week to get it running for our local bi-annual AMRA meet over the first weekend of June and I'm just now working on finishing the conversion. The key component was having a set of 2R Weaver RS3 wheels and axles I had just replaced with the Intermountain replacement axles on my RS3. I was able to modify the old axles by removing the cracked gears, removing the burr on the axle to stop gear from rotating on the axle to be able to slide the original Atlas bushes onto the axle having removed the insulated wheel. I then turned the axle end down by I think 1.37mm to allow the gear off the three rail wheel set to fit securing it with loctite. I then installed the modified axle/wheels onto the power trucks and made up some power pickup wipers. I removed all the 3R electronics & installed a circuit board I made with a Digitrax 465 motor decoder and a Soundtraxx DSD150 sound decoder fitted (no lights at this time). It looks and operates very well. One thing I did do was wire the motors in series which allows much slower speeds. I did this after reading something on the web so don't know what it was like before. I'll put something together for this forum if there is interest.
