I have been working on an around the room layout for a long time. Here is the plan I have settled on, but I need help "spicing it up." I have added a siding, but I would also like a switching section to the layout so I can have a continuous run train and a switcher. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this. It is a Scarm file.

The linked file can only be read by the same type CAD program that created it. For posting on the group, it's better to convert a CAD file to a jpg or PDF before it is posted, so that most people can view it without needing an expensive CAD program on their computers.

Jack,
I'm sure I can help. What I will need in addition to the track diagram is a benchwork diagram that shows me how additional track could possibly be laid out. In other words, how wide is the benchwork support under any given section of track? Secondly, is the room adaptable to adding a stationary or rolling section that could be used for switching?

I will work on it this evening and get it shaped up. Thanks!
Jack:
Around the room is a great idea! A thought would be instead of circling, and you've got space...how about putting a reverse loop on each "end" of your run? That would serve many purposes. First, it would make the layout more interesting because the train would go from one place to the next and then return as it does it real life. Secondly, it would give you and others something to do versus just watching the train run the same loop.
You could "stack" the reversing loops, one on top of the other, to maximize your space and minimize the places you'd have to have access holes. This space has tremendous possibilities. You could have yards/hidden fiddle areas at both "ends" to switch cars on and off the layout.
I believe you would be happier if you incorporated some means to "reverse" your trains without physically having to pick them up.
The most important question is: How are you and others going to interact with this layout? The more you have to do the more fun it will be. If it's just circling the same direction there won't be much to do. Some people are okay with that, others aren't.
Your call. Food for thought.
One thing to think about might be height and how wide are you going to make it. Trying to reach over stuff is not so easy as you get older.. you look pretty young so that's probably not a problem.
