I am in the early stages of planning a new layout using Atlas O. I know Atlas used to have track planning software free on their site, but it is no longer available there.
Does anyone know of its availability from another location?

Its so full of bugs, you dont want to use it. Thats probably why its been taken down. I dont have a suggestion as to other good freeware unfortunately, maybe someone else can help with that.
Well that's not good. Thanks anyway.
Version 8.0 good, 10.0 bad.
Is the executable file the only one that is needed? I have 8.0 on my computer, there's a number of files, but not sure if the others are needed.
Do you have a zip file of it Bob?
I used to use Atlas software too. I really liked it. I, also, tried to download it the other day and it wasn't available. That's a shame. It always worker for me although I don't know what version I used to have. Oh well, just have to plan the hard way... good ol pencil, paper, ruler, and compass.

I have version 7, 8 and 10. version 8 is the best one by far. I also have versions 1,3, and 5 on my older laptop. Version 1 is so old it's on a floppy disk!
Rats! I am sorry that has disappeared...luckily I ran it and did big printouts on
pages I taped together two years ago. But if I need to make changes like tightening radii for the real world, I'd want it to be there. What I'd like to see from Atlas is a lower profile track...like Scaletrax, but without the proprietary connections and sharp edges. Everything but Scaletrax seems too clunky, like it
was G scale or standard gauge. Lower profile rail and ties half as thick would do it.

Here's a link that Atlas had posted regarding SW that uses their line of track as well as several others. http://www.anyrail.com/index_en.html. The latest SW is fee based but I just down loaded version 5 for free. I'm not sure of the limitations between the latest offering and 5. I let you know how it works for me. Maybe someone else on the forum has experience with anyrail.
Email sent.
I've downloaded the AnyRail software and it's not too hard to use, but there's still a learning curve.
I designed a plan using the Atlas software this week, I might give it a try in AnyRail to see what happens.
Oh yeah, the AnyRail version I downloaded is apparently a trial version, I can only use 50 pieces of track then it asks for a key number to be inserted.

Ron, there was no attachment in the email.

That's normal. The 50 piece limit is still very useful, for example you could do the layout in sections, or you can use longer sections of flex track to replace multiple sections of straight track. Still, I eventually spent the (small amount of) money for the full version.

Ron - I am also looking for the Atlas O software. Would you be able to also send it my way? I would really appreciate it.
Chris
I recently started using the free SCARM (Simple Computer Aided Railway Modeler) to design my Atlas O layout. It's easy to use and I have had great luck with it. Check it out if you haven't already.
Greg - Thank you for the tip! this is by far the most simple track software I have seen. Not much to learn as it's pretty straight forward (at least for the basics I have started) We'll see when I get to try to add another level (etc)
Thanks again,
Chris
Chris I see no email in your profile. Send me an email.
Ron
Ron - I do not see an email address . Where can I find it?
Greg Baker,
Man do I like that engineering, can you set me up with the O guage Lionel FasTrack
version also?
PCRR/Dave
Greg, I am going to try the scarm program it looks very user friendly. Forget Atlas it had to many bugs.
Chris click on my profile name and scroll down and look on the right side for extended profile. If there is nothing below extended profile click on extended profile and my email will be down below it.

Chris,
I just started actual construction based on the plan I developed from the SCARM software and so far it has proven to be very accurate to what track I'm actually laying out.

PCRR/Dave,
I didn't develop this software and I just started using it myself a few weeks ago. I don't see fast track listed in the dropdown at the top left... but "Atlas-O-Ind -> Industrial 3 Rail Roadbed Track System [O]" might be what you are looking for.
Greg - I just saw your construction thread. Looking good to me. Seems you don't have the traditional square/rectangle space either. I need to upload a diagram of my space. I've (obtained) more space in my basement which allowed me a little bit more sq footage but it's an interesting shape.
As you laid the track in the software, did it present a problem at all when physically connecting 2 ends as you completed a loop during the build? I can't seem to have it line up perfectly and am getting the feeling that a 3/4" off or so can be fixed on the install.
Studrat, When you have 2 tracks that will not connect with a standard length track, you need to use a flexTrack to make the connection. If you right click your piece of track you can find out exactly how long it is from one of the dropdown items... hope that helps.
