Here's what I ended up with by combining two Atlas O Through Plate Girder Bridge Basic Kits and two Expansion Kits.  With all the bridge steel parts heavy die cast metal this thing weighs as much as an NFL interior lineman.   Note that I chopped off the interior ends to mate the bridges together.

Thanks all.

Matt. The structural components of these Atlas O plate girder bridges are made of very heavy solid die cast metal.   Stock out of the box and assembled you could put one on a couple of 2 X 4's at each end and stand on it and it'd hold up for sure.    So, there's no need for the metal internal stringers used inside the mostly plastic structural components of the Atlas O Truss Bridge.

BobbyD.  No picture yet of where it will go.  As for supporting it -- abutments at the ends of course.  And it'll need a pier in the middle because I joined the two halves together with sheet brass which will not be load bearing for this heavy bridge and whatever rolls over it.    A pier in the middle is okay because the bridge will be over a small river/creek/dry wash.

Thanks, Earl.  The track distance, center to center is 4.5 inches.  This is the standard for the Atlas O 3 rail and 2 rail track geometry based on their rigid curves and #5 and #7.5 switches  - when used unmodified as two switch crossovers.

This "double double" bridge weighs 16.1 pounds, is 9.5 inches wide, and 30 inches long - plus the track extensions.

FYI, the Pratt Truss bridge has the same track centers stock, 4.5 inches.  While converting a 3 rail version to 2 rail (I switched from 3 to 2 a while back) I reduced the track centers to 4 inches by building new decking.   But, it'd take a blacksmith to modify the plate girder bridge in question it's so sturdy..

Hope this helps.
