I rode several of the Hoboken-Port Jervis trips. One of the trips I rode had the combination crew/open air car immediately behind the auxiliary tank. The locomotive's exhaust was, quite literally, almost deafening. At times, it seemed as though it almost drowned out the whistle.
I made what turned out to be a rather nice sound recording; however, it is still on tape. I must get it converted to CD.
