The Friday night rally at Morrison's Door this week was for the "import" crew...the local pizza guy organizes the rally and gets permission from the "big guy," Mr. Morrison, to use the lot.

Each car owner pays $2.00 to the pizza guy, and he gives 10% to the "big guy" for use of the lot.   The rest of the dough goes for pizza and beer!  Present this week at the rally are Jags, Mercedes, VW's, an Austin Healey and a Triumph

Hi guys, I’ve ordered some paint for my Army Air Force tanker, and the Hunter Green for the cab (which will be REA). As it’s almost impossible to get Testor’s olive drab, is there a Tamiya olive drab in a spray that comes close? (Not TS-28, which is too green). I’m looking for something appropriate to late ‘40’s-early 50’s.
Thanks!

You guys crack me up...thanks for the comments!

Dallas and Artie, there's are few brands mixed in above...most of the figures standing by the pallets and nearby are "American Diorama."  They have a limited number of 1/43 and are sold in packages of two. The gal sitting on the pallet and the two gals sitting on the back of the "Benz" convertible are metal and the brand is "Omen" from England.  They have a webpage up with some great figures, between the difference in currency (US dollar to GBP) and the shipping. they've become even more expensive.  I got lucky on mine having bought at a train show several years ago.  The character sitting on the dumpster taking a swig and the pizza guy are "Arttista."  There are some "off shore" figures mixed in too...actually, they're pretty good for the price!

Ted, that's a great idea...there may be a Friday night "keg party" in the future down by the trailer camp  I haven't re-painted any figures recently, but i may give that a try again some day.  I tried painting from scratch a few years ago and put down the brush after not be satisfied with the results...sort of like tossing the golf clubs, if you know what i mean...lol!

Mike, some of those guys must have trust funds, especially the "Jag" guys!  If you noticed, those two drivers seem to be set for the evening...especially the driver of the green "Jag" toward the back.  She appears ready to hit the road..  The gals from North and South Main on the layout are always willing to make fashion suggestions as needed...

Artie ,  Tamiya does have flat olive green ( #  XF -58  ).

I use their X-20A  thinner and the airbrush cleaner ( i don't have that number handy right now )

It sure looks like you are having fun Ted.

How long have you been at this ?🙄

I've always said that Ted has the best figures and scenes, and the best stories to go with them...!

Aw' thanks very much Paul'.. But I am in good company'.. your figures and autos are first rate'...!!!!   Painting figures is a entire hobby in it self.  the large majority of my figures are hand painted. The W.S, Artista, and Phizer, bachman, etc.  are all touched up..  It's something I enjoy, bringing them to life.  I use a variety of items to get them they to look human....My opinion only.. I think the Model-U, and Printle, a shapeways company, are the best for hand painting.....

With winter coming, you should consider re-trying your hand at painting'...There is no right way, or wrong way'....to paint figures'.... it takes me several days to paint figures. Paint must dry one day after undercoating/primer.  Then initial coat, another day.  Face and details another day... Weathering/shadowing if required...

A little bit of work... No different than building scenery, or scratching a structure'...

Dallas, believe it or not, I can't.. I started with 1/24 diecast scale cars.  I needed some buildings to go with them.. Late 2010.  I bought the Evans Design "model builder software".. and started making paper buildings....  I didn't get into O gauge until 2012.  I met a guy in Michaels, buying balsa wood.  He was a builder of O Gauge structures for layouts, that he sold to millionaires who didn't have time to build themselves.  In Jan 2012, I bought my first Lionel set, and started a layout'.... One thing led to another, the normal progression... I've always been an artist from a kid. I majored in art in HS.  Wanted to attend the Pair School of Art, extension of Yale.  But no scholarships, and way too expensive.... So bottom line, I have the eye for painting figures, scenery; structures, etc. I haven't painted any pictures in many years.  When I was a kid I did many illustrations.  That skill has never left me, (so far)...🎃

Glad  the skill never left you Ted.

Similar but not the same for me .    As long as I can remember ,I always painted things like my old Tonka dumptruck .  Dad told me once that I always painted anything I got my hands on.

The HS I  attended didn't have any art classes but I did some drawing off and on.      I really didn't do a lot until I  would draw some girlfriends and wives portraits for the guys in Vietnam when back at base camp.

When I came home in 1970 I  started a correspondence course but had to give it up because of issues.

I've done airbrushing on cars and motorcycles but mostly ended up doing a lot of acrylic polymer paintings on canvas.  I've also done a fair amount of woodcarving art.

I started my present layout in 2016 and I thought I was doing OK.............but boy, Ted , you have definitely made some impressive gains in the hobby .🤤   Nice work.

...........from the looks of your images on the Forum , I  don't think "  that skill  "  has left you.

Well guys here is my 2 cents worth. Paul and Ted you both are wonderful guys to learn from! Until I started fallowing this thread I never picked up a paint brush to paint a car let alone people and you both got me motivated to give it a try. The best thing is its cheaper to buy naked people and to restore some cars then buy new ones or painted people. Plus it give me a break from the rest of the layout when I get frustrated !

Thank you both!

The hot dog guy is taking advantage of the beautiful fall weather...early dusk by the bus station! The hot dog guy is taking advantage of the beautiful fall weather, and he's created quite the traffic jam...surprised the law hasn't shown up yet to move the crowd along?

Dodge 3

Great scene Paul, I know you can't see them but the law is parked on the other side of the station. They are waiting for the crowd to die down so they can get a couple dogs also!

Mike, thank you very much'... That is what this hobby is all about'.. Sharing techniques, and helping others in achieving good results in their modeling and layouts.  I learned plenty from the guys on the RRL forum when I first started'..

I still try to learn something new every day'... I 'm just very happy that I've been helpful to you'....

Dallas, we have a lot in common'.. I was in Nam, 25th Infantry Div. 70-71.... Didn't do much drawing or any kind of modeling for many, many years..........So nice now to  do what I want, when I want'... I love retirement'... And haven't missed working one second'....😄👍

Ted ,  1/40 th Artillery  Dong Ha 1969.       Good  you made it back. 👍

Agree with you on the retirement thing.   Always heard about retirement being such a bad thing with nothing to do..........must have been those who were not involved in model railroading. 😉

I found this 1:43 pickup truck outfitted with US Air Force Security Police decals on Ebay.  Mick the Dalmatian (RIP) made me proud when he joined the service!

And for the OGR Magazine crew, yes, that's the little whistle stop shed from the Ameri-Towne product line.  I detailed it a little bit with some paint, windows and a grain of wheat light.  It served as "gate shack" for the sentry at the entrance to Liberty Air Force Base on my last layout.  It's safely packed away with the rest of my trains for the "next layout" I'll start building sometime next year after some basement remodeling work.
