PHOTOS TAKEN BY AND COURTESY OF GEORGE MANLEY. THEY WERE TAKEN IN THE NORTHEASTERN SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA.
The date is May 1986 and the EMD GP60's 5-6-7 were barn storming on the Santa Fe...The demo's unlike the GP60's that Santa Fe bought had round edges on the nose which gave them a special appearance. Train 991 was late getting out of Richmond, CA, and hit Collier, CA, about 9 A.m....usually the 991 rolls thru Collier before the sun comes up.
Photo # 1 & 2.......EMD 7-6-5 are rolling thru Collier with the 991 and for odd reasons this train was going real slow...Note the siding off Collier siding....There use to be a stock pen here that loaded and unloaded sheep for grazing. Stock cars used to be pulled by GP7's and they would unload at the pen.
Photo # 3.....As luck would have it, the 991 was moving real slow, so there were some great photo ops along State Route #4. This is a shot of EMD 7-6-5 working its way east at Christie, CA.
Photo # 4......This is a shot can't be made any more as the local fools began having drinking parties on the lot and making a big mess. The other problem with this spot is having a EB train roll thru with the light in the right place which rarely happened.
Kinda cool to see some demos pulling a train!
