Spent some time cleaning up the basement today, so I thought I'd take a few photos to mark the occasion.  This is my first O-scale layout, so it's a little rough around the edges, and I'm no carpenter either!  But it keeps me and the kids happy, so it's all good.  I'm just finishing setting up star wiring on the layout in case I can swing a DCS system this fall, and it's about time to put some scenery in - otherwise there'll be no Bear Mountain to name the whole thing after!  Here's the trick though - I'm posted overseas in Europe with the government, and we're already two years into a three year assignment in Vienna.  So that means I've got to finish this up quick, cause one way or another it's all getting torn down and packed up next summer!

  • DSC07676: Here's the far end, with a couple sidings for small towns, one lower and one up above.
  • DSC07677: Not the most elegant bridge support engineering, but nothing a little scenery won't hide I hope!
  • DSC07674: Hope to put a Lionel sawmill in on this siding in place of the swing set.

That's one nice looking layout lefty.  Great track plan and more space than I thought you would have, living in Europe.  I watch International House Hunters and the homes and apartments in Europe are so small compared to American homes.  I believe we are spoiled, real spoiled when it comes to the homes we have.

Anyway, thanks for posting, the layout looks like a lot of fun for you.

Thanks everyone, nice to hear such compliments from the experts!  it is a good amount of space to work with, and I only hope we have something close to this at our next posting.  Have to head out to Utah for a few weeks now so we can welcome our third kid into the world, but hope to be back at work on this by the end of August.  I'll keep you all posted on the progress.
