Prototype Lionel accessory!
Thanks for posting Rusty! Man, the stuff from these Speed Graphic Film and Video just gets better and better.
Its literally a trip back in time.
We're so fortunate that they share these videos on youtube instead of keeping them locked in a vault.
Whole new meaning to Air Mail. Thanks cool video.
fascinating.
shot in the Jersey pine barrens. classic Pennsy consist. daring flight that low to the ground.
No safety harness, hand deployed dragging style boat anchor blindly seated rear facing the transfer point straddling a support wire adjacent to propeller blades with a yawing approach blinding smoke.....what could possibly go wrong?? Pure Keystone Cops. Luv it!
"When you need it eventually - use blimp mail"
Brendan
I watched this...Seems the blimp pilot is having trouble holding the blimp above the train. When the blimp slows, it loses all forward momentum, thusly, loses directional control. Let alone the heat from the trains smoke stack causing turbulence. As a former Coast Guard Flight Mech, I have hoisted to LOTS of boats with a target much smaller than the top of a passenger car. It takes coordination between the guy with the rope in his hand, the blimp pilot, and the train engineer, and apparently LOTS of straight track. It must be some really hot mail to spend this much time trying to transfer the mail. It would have been faster to stop the train. But you have to give these guys credit for wanting to be innovative. Let alone Mr. Hearst's deep pockets.
