i see in new catalog that it has a bigboy that will run on o31 curves, has any one had or seen how much hangover there is. I always wanted a bigboy but don't have a big layout to have one but this sounds like it could run.

I know the general rule of thumb is allow 3.5 inches from center of track to left and right of the center line of the track, that's how much over hang you will have. I read this in a train book!

I have an earlier version of MTH Big Boy and it does indeed negotiate O31 curves ... and looks absolutely ridiculous in the process. I suspect that's hard on the traction tires also.
I currently run my Big Boy on a circuit with O54 minimum radius and O72 easements. Even that has substantial overhang. I got my BigBoy through a bargain deal from a friend, not really by plan. If you have tight curves, you are better off to choose suitably smaller locos.
