Depends - if something is so attractively priced at BIN - you might not want to wait...just to save a few bucks on what is already a great deal.

That said - a few months ago - a fellow listed an PW Lionel ABA F3 set - for $30 BIN - I BO'ed him $25!!! - And won!

Gotta live dangerously sometimes!

i suppose you have a point... while waiting for a response i guess someone could Buy it Now.  i typically offer ~15% less... they come back with a counter offer which i'll often take and at least it usually saves shipping.  i have to say, though, that i have often seen some sellers swing for the bleachers with a set price probably hoping someone thinks that making an offer for a few $$ less will snag them a great deal when in fact they'd still be overpaying.

On the backside - the seller can set the Best Offer threshold, so a certain amount will be accepted automatically.

So there is some argument for taking a stab at BO - you might hit. (Keeping in mind when you BO - you are committing to buy.)

If you don't get an automated response - then the seller might not have used that feature - but might be worth a shot.

yes, you're right... i have hit that on occasion.  right after the offer you immediately get an acceptance and go right to pay.  not to make this too complicated, but after you make an offer... find out it's not automatic... can you then go ahead and BiN?  in that case it would always be practical to try knocking off $5 or $10... hey, its a free pint or two.

I think you can - Im also thinking, if you get an automated response - that might be a good indicator that the "accept X" threshold is set - so might be worth bumping it up and trying again. Not like your bothering the seller, since it's automated.

If an option is still showing - like BIN - it is still open to you.

I certainly have done a BIN when a MO is available - if the price is a good deal in my opinion. A few dollars (an amount open to interpretation) are just that - a few. I know - B. Franklin said that a "penny saved is a penny earned"; what he didn't say is "but it's still just a penny".
