Really,

Just with this statement I can tell you are not a regular reader of Trains magazine.  Good article in this months issue about PTC and all the issues and why a delay is needed, with all the millions all the railroads are spending on it.  Highly recommend everyone read it.

Way more than $Millions. Last estimate I read was over $6 BILLION so far and another $6 Billion to finish installation. Add to that the cost of running the system in subsequent years. What really gets to me is everyone blaming the Railroads for the delay. I suggest one look at the total picture. The FCC approval process and spectrum allocations had (and continues to have) a huge impact on implementation.

It is disappointing to see the inability of Government agencies responsible for getting this done, unable to coordinate the necessary approvals and assignments of radio spectrum to make it all work.

Oh, and from what I have seen on the UP in and around the Chicago area, they are doing a lot to implement the system.

I don't need to read Trains Magazine to know what is really going on. I see it everyday, 1st hand, and the real pros and cons from real life experience. My original statement was sarcasim... but maybe I should go read Trains now to figure out how to really railroad.

Cracks me up when people read a magazine or something in a forum and think they got the real story, or all the facts. Should we discuss the 4014 now?

Or maybe we should watch the news after a train related accident to find out the real story???

C'mon man!

That is the sticking point, as well as getting native Americans to sign off on putting up antenna towers (though wouldn't RR have easements to allow for signals and other "objects" to be placed, unless we are talking really large towers that look like high line ones not simple mono-pole antenna stuck atop a telephone pole.
