Thanks Dave for starting us off for this fine Sunday!   Here are two MTH RailKing boxcars.  On the left and 19th century wood boxcar.  The Ma & Pa operated these short type of wooden boxcars well into the mid 20th century.   These car were confined for use only on the Ma & Pa and could not be interchanged with other railroad.    The boxcar on the  right is a modern boxcar.  Although the Ma & Pa was a short line, they owned  a large fleet of the modern type of boxcars.

Good morning,

I just received from Beth (Public Delivery Track) a new (to me) boxcar.  It is a Crown Model Products Outside Braced (or single sheathed) boxcar in a B&O scheme.

I really wasn’t looking for another OB car but this one has the B&O scheme used on its cars from 1946 to 1955, a hard one to find.  Unfortunately, this particular style of car was not used by the B&O.  The B&O did not have many OB cars, but the ones they had were all based on the USRA 8-panel design.  This Crown Models car is a 6-panel design used by the Southern Pacific.  Other than missing two panels, this is a really nice car.

ETPX 314 is a model of a 36-foot wood refrigerated boxcar owned by East Tennessee Packing Company of Knoxville that carries the name of its Selecto brand ham and bacon. Data on the car says it was rebuilt in August 1924. The Atlas O Archive lists a model of Selecto 313 as having been delivered in June 2007 as part of a 4-car pack at MSRP $239.80 - $59.95 per car. The archive makes no reference to Selecto 314.

Thanks Dave for getting us started for this fine Sunday!   Here a Weaver  Erie Lackawanna express boxcar.  Although the Erie Lackawanna merger took place slightly later than the era I model ( transition era 1946 - 1960 ) ,  I had to buy this boxcar because I like the way it looks.  This car is everything we expect from Weaver!  I sure miss Weaver, however,  I'm happy there is so much Weaver product on the after market.   IMG_5020

Well running a little late today, its been a busy workday since I spent Saturday at a train show 2 1/2 hr drive from home.  So today its mark/grade exam papers and prepare for next weeks lessons...

This is a Menards car from 2019 and I really like the colorful and distinctive detailed livery that they did.  It has a lot of small lettered details plus the multi color paint job (roof is grey and body yellow).  I also like the details worked into the design like the "bill of lading" simulated on the box door.  She is a scale 40 footer, measures out to 10" just about as long as I can run on my little layout.

Milk was a major commodity for the Rutland Railroad. On one route, it transported milk from northern New York State and Vermont to Chatham, New York - which then went to New York City on the New York Central. On another route, the Rutland delivered milk to the Bellows Falls (Vermont) Co-Operative Creamery that went to Boston on the Boston & Maine Railroad.

Photos and video show Rutland #500 on my 10’-by-5’ layout pulling three milk cars, Hood’s Milk - GARE 819, New Haven Dairy GICX 300, and Bellows Falls Co-Operative Creamery MTC 1835. Also, in the consist is Rutland wood caboose #36.

Well I am back from my 2 day trip to Washington DC for a re-union with some old friends I worked with nearly 30 years ago, so I slept late but can't miss a "Boxcar Sunday".  This is one I purchased and it was delivered just as I was leaving on Thursday night, so here is my newest boxcar.  Its a Kline #5118, 8 1/2 inch, "Marx Deluxe Type" boxcar for the New York and Susquehanna RR.  This one was made by Kline Jun 1987.  Except for "Susie" with her engineer's cap, boots and lantern, its fairly plain but it fits with my rolling stock mostly because its not too long.  So here is the "Susie Q" boxcar by Kline:

After I posted the photo of the SP style single-sheathed, or outside braced, boxcar in the B&O scheme, I got a PM asking who has made a model of the USRA/ARA SS boxcar.  My response, which I think is correct, is all manufacturer’s except Weaver made the 8-panel SS car.  Around 50 railroads had this car.  Here is Atlas' version:

Here is Crown Model's/Weaver's 6-panel SP version in a fantasy scheme.  I do not know if any roads other than SP had this style.

I don't follow the SP, but I found this interesting when looking up this car.  Many of these 6-panel cars had the wood removed and replaced with sheet metal so they had smooth sides but kept the braces.  These were painted black and used on SP's "Overnight" freight service.

Dubuque Packing Company UTRX 63052 is a 36-foot wood-sided refrigerated boxcar. The model was made by Atlas O (3001411), delivered in 2016, and sold at MSRP $73.95. It is based on cars built by the General American Car Company. I seldom run this car because most of my trains represent the railroads of New England and New York State.
