Well since I worked for the US Navy for many years, I have to support Pennsyfan's great display with my USN boxcar from Menards. Happy Birthday U.S. Navy !!

However back to Boxcar Sunday, I am posting my latest acquisition from a local train show.  At 5$ I could not pass this one up.  Its in perfect shape, all trucks, wheels, couplers, doors etc work fine.  Its relatively old, being made by MPC in 1976-1977, so nearly 50 years old.

Thanks Dave for getting us started for this fine Sunday!!  Got to love your Rio Grande boxcar!  It's a real eye catcher for sure !!

I bought this Soo Line boxcar from MR. Muffin while at York on Friday.   It's a brand new RMT scale boxcar which is a special run Soo Locks Centennial car.   I must say that is a fine scale model with separately applied parts.  Mr. Muffin was selling them at the unbelievable price of $35.00 which as you know is a really fabulous price for a well detailed scale car.   I've tested it on my layout and it runs along as smoothly as can be. I do find it to be on the lite side but adding weights will be no problem.    I absolutely love it!!!  A terrific addition to my boxcar fleet and at a great price to boot!    Now that RMT is now producing/importing scale boxcars/freight car,   I'm looking forward to checking out their entire line.

Thanks for launching Boxcar Sunday Dave. I know the boxcar was your posting; but I have to say that’s a mighty fine looking engine.
i bought this car on the bay to add to my giraffe train for the clubhouse. Even though there’s no action I thought the graphics were an eye catcher. However when I received it I found it to be a C-10 grade; and now I’m not sure if I should bring it to the clubhouse.

@GG1GUYY- Great boxcar.  We used to live very close to the New Hope and Ivyland in PA.  Wsh I had been smart enough to buy a boxcar!!

Today I am continuing to post my "new" collection of small Kline boxcars that I believe were based mostly on the Marx "deluxe" boxcars but with new colors and livery.  The is the #5114 Santa Fe from 1993-1996.  These are 8" cars (not including the couplers) primarily plastic, but they work really well on my small layout.  They are colorful and very well made and the livery is clear and distinct.  For $15 including shipping and tax I think they make a great buy.

Here is the RR logo end of the car, note the advertisement"Floating Under Frame"  This was part of SF's effort to advertise a softer easier ride for cargo and incorporated into their "Shock Control" system.  I am not sure what the "DF" stands for, perhaps someone else knows and can post?

Here is the other part of the advertisement.  SC stands for "Shock Control" and you can see their assertion..."Gives Freight a Smoother Roll".

Here is my Atlas O version of the Susie-Q boxcar.  This is one of my early buy-without-research cars.  This paint scheme did not come around until well after what I use on my late 40s era layout.  I think this scheme is early 60s.  Nice car, as all Atlas cars are.

Interesting how Atlas and MTH used the same car number in their respective models. I like the Atlas version better…

Greetings Patrick, that's a nicely detailed box car for $35! I have to mention the box car number trailing downwards. I'm thinking with your creative writing  skills you could come up with a fun story line for that!

FYI - Check TrainWorld, they have a bunch of RMT freight cars for pre order.

Krieglok, your comments about Atlas and MTH Suzie Q boxcars reminds of a comparison I made of MTH Premier and Atlas "Steam Era Classics" 36' wood reefers.  They appear to be identical except for trucks and details specific to the model, like handrails and grab irons.   It looks like they were made from the same molds, maybe in the same factory.

I have 40' AAR steel boxcars from both manufacturers, but the MTH are Premier and the Atlas ae Trainman, not an apples to apples comparison.  If any of you have equivalent cars to compare, I'd like to hear about your findings.  Thanks.

Not so much the details, but the general look and feel of the cars. The Atlas version has a “lower” appearance, giving it a feel of an older type boxcar, while the MTH car has a larger look to it, probably because of the wider doors and different roof style. The bottom sills are also a difference. Ron’s car has a straight sill, giving it a vintage look, while the MTH has the more modern segmented sill, that gives the car a more modern look.

The trucks are a thing I ignore for the time being. MTH is a roll of the dice as to what style truck comes on their model. I will swap the trucks on my car to friction bearing in the future.

Looking at actual NYS&W boxcars, the MTH body is closer to the prototype however, but I like the Atlas car…

Thanks Scott for pointing out the downward trailing car number!   I don't know how I missed that .. LOL!!!  I can certainly come up with a good story for that little snafu!

Here’s my go for this week:

IMG_4319

This is a Crown car stripped, repainted, and decaled for WNW (K4 Decals).  As CAPPilot stated couple of weeks ago, this is a six panel OB boxcar (odd), but worse yet is the fact that the decals are set up for opposite diagonals for each half of the car.   In order to get it done, the letters had to be individually arranged… took about 30 minutes per side, about double the normal time.  But it’s unique!!!

Cheers,

Price

Photos and video show New Haven Railroad Alco RS-1 #0668 (Atlas O 6888-2) pulling two boxcars and a caboose on my 10’-by-5’ model railroad.

New Haven #35238 came in a Weaver box but has the letters CMP (Crown Model Products) on the underside of the floor. CMP was located in a large factory on Crescent Street in Waltham, Massachusetts once occupied by the Waltham Watch Company which manufactured watches for railroad trainmen.

Connecticut Railroad #06611 was expertly painted and detailed for me by Forum member @Krieglok.

Well this is a bit of a strange one for you with a story that just seems to go with pre-war American Flyer!  These 8 wheel cars were all catalogued as "1115" however, the car itself could be lithographed either 1115 or 1112 (which was "officially" the 4 wheel car) and they came as 8 wheel with either number.  The 8 wheel car was made from 1919-1929 and then stopped, the 4 wheel car continued until 1935.  So here is the 1115 (lettered 1112) American Flyer Automobile Car from 1919 to 1929 however the red version of the car likely dated to the later end of that period as the first 8 wheel 1112 cars were yellow-orange but no specific change over date is recorded.

@metalman - me, being a Pittsburgh born and raised person, I absolutely love that car!!!!  before I sold my collection I had upwards of 80 Pittsburgh related pieces on my layout, so they obviously hit a soft spot with me.  thanks for posting that.

Thanks Walt!   I was born & raised in the Hazelwood neighborhood of Pittsburgh and lived 3 blocks from the Baltimore & Ohio Glenwood yard.   The guys at the roundhouse would save their 7oz coke bottles and quart Tom Tucker ginger ale bottles for  my buddy Vince and I.   We'd collect them on Saturday's and cash them in at Frank Lenart's convenience store at the corner of Courtland/Lytle St.   5 cents for the quart and 2 cents for the 7 oz-but we didn't get money,  we would take candy from the jars on the counter.   Great memories I'll never forget.   In 1959 we moved to the suburbs(West Mifflin) and that party was over but a new adventure began watching the Union RR dump the slag cars at the 4 dumps in West Mifflin.
