Hi all -
The BQT 9100 series "gondolas" were recycled from single truck open cars, basically the upper body was cut down to the floor beams, side sills reinforced with steel, heavy planking bolted to the floor and a mast installed for the trolley pole. They used the BQT standard St. Louis #46 four wheel trucks and operated with hand brakes. They were used as the BQT general use work vehicles and as basic as they come. Some were further converted for more specialized uses. Each carhouse was assigned one or two of the gondolas to haul things around the system. As home built recycled work vehicles, no two were exactly alike.
Brown Tabby Studios in Brooklyn, NY announces a body kit representing these little work horses in a brass and wood kit. The kit will represent the most basic car with wood framing, decking and mast, brass ends and sill reinforcement, plus a few details not available elsewhere, and will include the St. Louis Car #46 sideframes/motor mount plank. Powered St. Louis #46 trucks, trolley pole and detail parts (as listed in the instructions) are available from Q car. This basic kit can be easily kitbashed to create the other specialized cars.
The basic unpowered gondola kit is available for $55, plus postage.
