A couple of new additions to the roster..

First up, ANOTHER MTH MAP Cylindrical Hopper (this one thanks to @Beth Marshall-The Public Delivery Track. And this is doubly delightful since the P&LE was part of the NYC System!!!

And, since “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” (we’ve got freeze warnings for tonight!!!)… bought a set of these really cool cars a couple of years ago, couldn’t resist getting another set when they recently announced them. Love them LED’s!!! Looks like I’ll have a neat Christmas train this year.

Funny, was just going to search for this thread and there it was - right on top!

At Train Club last evening I got to talking with one of the newer members and American Flyer came up. "I have a ton of it" he said so I pulled out my phone to show him some of my recent acquisitions that a friend gave me when he left town recently to go back to Niagara Falls to live with his brother. He left everything behind as his health was failing and he said "It's time to put this away."  Too bad too as he was a real asset to the hobby in general and loved to pick up and rebuild old trains and toys. He enjoyed working with children and try to ignite a love of trains to them. We miss you Torby!

I'm now going through 15-20 boxes of Gilbert Flyer 'stuff' including pieces 'n parts of a dozen+ locomotives (332 Challenger & 325AC Hudson) cars, and accessories. He also liked and handles a lot of MARX that I am completely ignorant of. Was telling new member Jim about all this and he offered to trade me some green heavyweights  for a like new Flyer Water Tower in the box. He invited me over today to see his 'stuff'.  The fella truly has STUFF!  Lol.  He has an overabundance of Flyer, HO, Lionel, MTH, some K-Line and a lot of 2 rail O scale. Most in boxes and tubs. He'll be over soon to select a few things to add to the water tower for a fair trade.

Sent me home with these very nice 900 series Heavyweights with the boxes for the 3 larger cars. No box for the baggage.

Now I have a very nice restored 326 Hudson, 2  No.312 PRR  K5's and a pair of red New Haven passenger cars. A whole box of mostly common cars and a few I was not familiar with. I started with Flyer from Santa Christmas 1949. PRR  No.310 K5 freight set.

I bought this from Brady's Train.  I was looking for a PRR boxcar I didn't have, and this one fit the bill.  It's a Lionel 84895 X31 with a rounded roof.  It has very nice detailing, but the problem is the color.  It is very, very red-ish compared to the red-brown for PRR that I'm used to.  A recent PRR purchase is here, and the color difference is obvious.  I still like this one though because of the 'S' on the sides.  I found out that indicates it's a 'store' car to carry PRR equipment from place to place.  The other thing that was interesting is the little letters, 'L' and 'R', on the sides of the door.  You can see the 'L' in this picture (to the left of the opening, a little above the bottom door frame).  The 'R' is on the other side.  I hadn't seen that before.

York purchases; pictures to follow:

  • American Flyer 435 O scale 4-6-2.
  • Southern streamliner passenger cars (7) by Weaver.
  • Lionel Chessie 2-8-4.
  • Williams Great Northern Train Master shell.
  • MPC clone of the 665 Hudson.
  • Williams freight cars, with junker Lionel cars to provide trucks.
  • Harry Potter 4-6-0 and train.  Cars are going to be relettered for Sodor Railways.
  • Fleischmann HO freight cars to go with my Penn Line Northern Pacific F7 A-B-A.

Thanks to the York effect, I was able to get a new to me item.  A 1948 Baby Ruth X6454 boxcar.  Just one more X6454 to go....

What is the York effect?  Something I noticed over the last few years.  When York is running, bidders at auction sites are reduced.   It helps the remaining budget buyers to win a few things.  Some auction sites even avoid auctions during York week.

Still waiting for the 3512 fire car body with no broken bits I obtained during the York effect.  Crossing fingers no bits get broken in shipping.  Then I can have a complete, nothing missing or broken PW 3512.

Are you collecting all variations, e.g., colors?

I got the 3512 fire car.  It was missing many parts but no plastic broken

Between 2 cars I got one, unbroken, complete car!  Along with a future 3D printing catalog submission for the 3512-58 lantern.

Here is the video

Fall fish dinner at St. Joseph in Force Pa. with Charlie and then went up to his the VFM.   Hmmm.......20241025_181401

......RK ps3 WM Pacific followed me home.

Have agreat weekend everyone ....God Speed.

Don’t you just hate when that happens. It’s happened to me numerous times and I don’t know how to prevent it in the future. However, since it’s there you should allow it to stay.

Jay

I didn’t attend York last weekend, but I feel like I did…

So, on Saturday morning, I checked out @MrMuffin'sTrains auction and what did I behold but the Lionel Pennsy Trail Blazer 18” passenger car 2-pack from 2005. I picked up a NOS 4-pack set a couple of years ago, so these were a great addition. And maybe because everyone was at York, I was the only bidder!!!

IMG_7217IMG_7218

And while I was researching the 2 coach set, I noticed that there was also a SoundStation Diner for the set. So, against my better judgment, I did a bit more research and what did I find but a NOS Diner from the eBay sight of forum sponsor @Scott@Trainz. So now I have a complete Trail Blazer… just have to decide which engine to run them behind. Due to the heft of all the 18” aluminum cars, something tells me I’ll need the GG1.

IMG_7216

For this last item, I must thank/blame @Putnam Division… just before York, Peter posted a picture of an unusual car - I asked about it’s provenance and he said that it was an old K-line milk car. And, as if that wasn’t enough info, he had to tell me they also made an OJ version. So on the hunt I went and found one of the OJ cars at Grzyboski’s. I waited till after York to pick it up. It is definitely unusual - almost like two tanks on a flatcar. Thanks Peter!!!

Very nice, when do we see the video, and I'll take a little Vodka with the OJ

Went down to Sommerfelds Trains in Butler, WI (Milwaukee suburb) for their 40th anniversary sale. 20% off all rolling stock off already discounted from MSRP plus plenty of other deals.

picked up this awesome Atlas articulated auto carrier for just $110.

if you are ever in the area, I highly recommend them; their store is absolutely packed with O gauge and Jack and the team are so great.

Ok gang, this is my latest online bid buy. My wife has assumed I have totally lost my mind however, what I see is a base of what can be. I like abandoned toys like this so I can restomod with out condemnation from the purest crowd.

what you see before you is future hours of enjoyment and gratification in restoring to a clean and enjoyable toy for play once more.

I will be posting future restomoding updated on the tinplate forum.

you all have great week. 727D4264-B8E8-4A9B-91A9-81038053017A41B5AECC-36B3-47C9-B7AD-200048E646A741B5AECC-36B3-47C9-B7AD-200048E646A759856D2D-C939-4381-853E-3EE6729455805E076F48-06EF-402D-8D8D-C6C3E7B0CE19

Well yesterday was my 80th birthday and I was absolutely thrilled with the gift that my Grandson gave me.  It is a MTH "Doodlebug" and I had nothing in my collection or inventory that was anything like it.  It is really neat.  It has sounds, bell, whistle, lights, etc.  It is really cool.
