Thanks Mark, I really love the engine! But here is some advice to guys and gals building their layouts. When building think about the biggest engine you might even think about buying while building and not just building it for the engines you have already! I had to remove part of the tunnel porthole coming out of a curve because of the long overhang. I am lucky enough that everything else along my 072 curves has plenty of room to prevent hitting with the overhang.

@Mark Boyce posted:

Mike, yes, I should have squeezed 072 curves onto my layout, although it would have been two semicircles with short straights in between.

Paul is right about the slippery slope.  I have 8 steam engines and would like a couple more.

I’d be more than happy to recommend a couple of small steamers that would easily pass through your pike, Mark

As a general rule of thumb, when you get to 20 or further and the local railroad wants to lease your locomotives, you've gone a tad too far!

Paul, please educate an old hillbilly.  What are CCII steamers, a railroad I don’t know of???

Well, after years of looking, I finally purchased something I've been wanting for years. I picked up this beauty of a 736 Saturday, for 120. I also picked up a 242, a 635 ( which had a crack in the screw hole, as common, but I  repaired it as soon as I got it home, and unless you look closer you'd never notice it,) and a 634 body, as well as a modern search light car.

el1056m2_1400xSteve, I thought this was a post delivery photo and you already got your hands on this one.

Mike G nice videos of a great looking engine.  It looks great on your layout.  You've done a great job on the design.  Is that a new plane on your runway?

Kent, my foray into this hobby all started with a 242 with a whistling tender, that ws our childhood train around the Christmas Tree.

My wife and I went back to Lawn-guy-land for Thanksgiving with the kids.  I got a chance to visit Trainland and Nassau Hobby.

I left $300 at Trainland.

IMG_0758IMG_0759IMG_0761IMG_0762Even though I've already got a PRR WbB 44 tonner I couldn't leave the CN version there for $129.  I became aware of the Wings of Angels cars looking for Air Force items since my daughter was in the USAF, when I saw Jessie, my daughter's name, on this one it had to come home too. Especially since it was $10-$15 less than prices for WOA cars on eBay.  The other three items will be put to good use also.

I finally found the Weaver 2nd run (with green window tints and grey trucks) Erie Lackawanna coach/sleeper add-on set that I had posted in the Wanted To Buy section of the forum for the past 2 years or so.  This was like hen's teeth/a needle in the haystack to find and I was able to get an offer accepted within 5 hours of it being listed with no bids.  Thank you LarryW for giving me the head's up.

Here is the link below

After a little light research I found that the 192 tower was possibly based on an air observance or air-force  tower.
7E0F930A-50EB-4836-B5FF-E8730538FCCD

the same Lionel 192 structure is shared with the Lionel 196 radar tower.  And in my postwar child’s mind I thought the radar tower was made to look out for flying saucers! I must have been Space and military brain washed!

Aflyer, thx   The original 192 and 196 are on a vibratory platform as well. Good vibrations…

Went to the Hamburg train meet this morning. Checking out the tables, seen quite few Lionel 671's, 681's, and 2020 turbine w/ original tenders which I already have, then I came to a screeching halt when I noticed a 682 w/ 2046W-50 tender which I don't have. When I left the meet my wallet was lighter and that 682 w/tender, along with a ZW275 and a 1033 transformers were in my possession. Some empty tables, wasn't crowded, but over all it was a good meet.

I didn't purchase it but still fits in this tread, birthday present from my wife - Lionel Hobby Shop!  I was able to make room on my Christmas layout table but it is tight.  My son and I are already planning how we now have to expand that table!

I have the dept 56 Lionel shop on my around the tree layout and hope to have space for one of these on my future layout. That is an awesome building!

yeah I decided against a Christmas layout around the tree or temporary layout, I built a second layout under my original table that is a permanent Christmas layout.  This picture is before I put out the new Hobby Shop.20211118_222744

@Fridge56Vet that's an awesome P-2!! I love when I'm able to pick up a train to which I have geographical and/or personal ties- such as in your case. Makes it that much better! Not only that, but what a beautiful model- I love that the paint scheme and lettering is so simple but the loco itself screams "look at me". Awesome loco!

@IRON HORSE love those pieces of premier midwestern rolling stock! As someone who just got into the midwest and west coast RRs and modeling them, I have a much greater appreciation and knowledge of those road names now than I would've 6 months ago. Awesome Haul!

Some things that I got over Thanksgiving that arrived last week:

Popped up online late one night and didn't hesitate after 7+ months of searching- Lionel Amtrak NPCU. What an awesome non-powered unit- while I've enjoyed running it in pair mode with my powered Lionel Legacy F40Phs, I like running it even more with different locos in a later paint scheme

Lnl AMT F40PH NPCU PhIII 90218 Horizons

Never thought I'd actually be posting this one since I was 99% sure I was going to return it- K-line 21" Superliner II Sleeper in Amtrak Phase IV livery. It was advertised as "3 rail" but came as 2 rail, which had me rather ticked because it was kinda pricey. But, after some research and the good fortune of having appropriate extra trucks, I converted it back to 3 rail and it works fine!

Some freight rolling stock: Conrail is such a versatile road name geographically, and I also love Conrail from when I was a kid. Atlas O Trainman Conrail flat with load and Lionel Conrail 3 bay open hopper(with NYC patch denoting CSX ownership)

Lnl Conrail NYC csx 3 bay hop & Atlas flat

Atlas O Burlington Northern 53' Evans DD boxcar and Lionel Union Pacific "patched" SP merger boxcar with auto frames. The UP is lacking a bit in certain details but I really like "merger" locos and rolling stock with "patches" or "overstepped" features.- IMO it does a good job in that regardsAtO BN 53' Evans & Lnl UP patched SP boxcar

@Leroof always loved that tower! I'm gonna assume it works?? Awesome pick-up and happy you were able to get something for which you've been searching so long!

@coach joe great haul!! Love all those items- the Woodland scenics figures look great, I'm not a WbB fan but I do like their 44-tonners and that's a heckuva deal you got on that one! Love that it's a CN version. Best pick-up is that WOA boxcar with "Jessie" on it! please tell your daughter thank you for her service!

@joe krasko that's some beautiful tin ya got! The 254E was the first prewar locomotive that I ever purchased(although mine is the more common olive green)- you got yours with the box, no less- that's awesome! Does it run well and does the e-unit work? Looks to be in great shape! Congrats on a great pick-up!!

@Dave Ripp. That park scene you have is exquisite! Nice Woodland Scenics chainlink fence- love that by itself but the b-ball court, the playground and rides, the chimnea(where'd you get that?!?)- all flows really well. I mean, I love your neighborhood in general !! That entire neighborhood is extremely well put together! The houses and spacing, sidewalks with steps, fence between the residential area and the tracks- that is so cool. That's a great ruler you got yourself, as well. I have an o scale ruler but it also has markings for N, HO and S. The S-scale part is handy when trying to decide if a certain item is "more S" or "more O" but I'd like to have a dedicated ruler like the one you have.

Thanks Mike and Steve, I got the grill-chimnea and the O Scale ruler from the same seller on eBay. I only bought the ruler because I wanted the grill and like combined shipping but I love it. I can now get a quick measurement of trees, buildings and figuers. If you search O Scale grill or Scale Ruler For Modelers in O Scale (1/48) you can find them.

@mike g. posted:

Great buys everyone! I sure would like to have a lot of that stuff but due to lack of size of layout and light wallet I will live with what I have right now!

@ArtsModelTrains, just wondering what size is your Christmas layout? I would love to build one over the summer for next year!

My layout is 4 x 6, I have it on a frame of 2 x 4s resting just a few inches off the ground under my 4 x 12 upper layout.  I have a fastrack polar express loop on the outside and O27 tube track on my inside loop. Hard to see it in the picture but that is my father's Lionel 2026 steam engine, his first, on that inner loop. It is 71 years old and running strong.

My plan is to expand this to run the full length under the upper level in the future, just have to work out the track plan.

No photos right now but I managed to track down one of the Lionel Junction 0-4-0 tank engines on The Bay. The plan with it is to replace the MTH trolley chassis that currently is powering my Lego/O gauge hybrid train, which is starting to struggle a bit. I should be able to hide all of the electronics in the engine's cab and if I need to modify some things, well, it's Lego, so it should be easy (famous last words).

For those who are, um, er, cheap! I found a website called printablerulers.net.  There you can download printable files (*.pdf) of rulers. Select the modeling option and O Scaler or whatever scale you would like. I printed at 100% and it is a little bit off, especially after 8 scale feet, but not much. I am going to play with the percentage to get closer. I think I will print on matte photo paper to have a flexible ruler. I may mount one on a piece of balsa for a rigid ruler. I am not one to stress to much about scale, close is good enough. But I do see the usefulness of it. Attached is a picture of the printout. O Scale Ruler

I finally found the hen's teeth/needle in a haystack Weaver 2nd run (grey trucks with green window strips) Erie Lackawanna coach/sleeper add-on set I've been looking for the last 3 years.  I got a text from my friend Larry from the forum within a half hour from when they were listed on EBay this past weekend.  There was a make offer option so I submitted an offer hoping it would be entertained before anyone placed an opening bid on it.  I left my desktop PC on with the speakers turned up and my Outlook email open.  I was woken up to an incoming Email blip at 3:30 AM from the seller with counter offer which I accepted.  I thought I was never going to find these!  They arrived today in mint condition with the foam pieces underneath each truck, styrofoam pieces on each end of the cars in the box, and inside the plastic bags.  The green  window tints look great in a dark room and I prefer them over the silhouettes on my earlier run of Weaver EL passenger cars.

Some of you may remember a recent popular thread asking if we made “impulsive purchases of model trains”, and you may also remember my emphatic denial of such abhorrent behavior. I am sure you will be shocked to learn, I lied... forgive me Forumites for I have sinned... Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima Culpa!!! I did not pre-order these, but, when I saw them, I just couldn’t resist. The fact that they are D&H didn’t help They are quite sharp and the “plating” is rather nice.

When I get a chance in the next day or two I’ll have to pull down my TMCC PA’s as well as my two sets of D&H passenger cars. Having those two sets of cars did help me resist splurging on more 21” passenger cars, so I guess there is some hope for me!!!

Well, another bad influence is heard from Even with a 14’ x 16’ layout and O-72 and O-84 curves, the 21” cars are a bit much (I have a few sets... Alaska, LIRR, 2 different PRR, NH). I do have two sets of D&H passenger cars - a set of Lionel 15” aluminum cars and a set of MTH 17” (I believe) ABS cars. I think I can resist... for now...

Currently residing in my dorm till I have a chance to take it home tomorrow, an ETS set. This thing has been sitting in the window of a hobby store near my college for the past several months and I finally decided to pick it up. It came with a few pieces of 2 rail track but the engine is set up for 3 rail operation and has a lionel coupler, which poses a bit of a problem as the cars all have ETS couplers which work together in theory but they're set lower... That covered flatcar has a "sticky" one which is promising

Skyline Chilli :  Wow brings back memories of our 20 years in Ohio.  Let me know...is it a "1 Way, 2Way or 3 Way " boxcar

Great car Monon...best wishes

Don

I live in Indianapolis, but used to go down to Cincinnati all the time many years ago. I think I had Skyline more than any of the others, but I remember really liking Gold Star and Camp Washington.

I prefer my box cars 1-way because I don't think cheese, onions, and beans really work well when running trains, but that's my own personal preference. 😛 To each their own! LOL

Thanks, Don!

I bought a prewar Lionel set #234.  This includes #258 engine, 257 tender, two #529 pullmans, #530 observation, and a #068 crossing sign.  The engine will need new wheels.  It comes with all boxes and set box.   I can't wait.  Wish I had a working layout about now.

Paul, I concur those two D&H passenger consists look great just as they are.  I think one has to have very large curves and really long straightaways for the 21" cars to look good.

You’re right, Joe. I’m pretty good on the curves (minimum O-72), but it’s the straightaways that I lack - even at my layout size of 14’x16’. For the 21” cars that I’ve purchased, I tend to just get 2 or 4 car sets. With the D&H set, the engines are 39” long, and if you add the 4-car set of passenger cars, that adds app. 84”, so you have a ten foot train!!! As with so many here-abouts, I wish I had more space

Paul, I would venture to say that no matter how disciplined a person is in purchasing engines and cars that 'fit their space', something will come along that will seem too large.  I just purchased a 4-car set of 18" NYC 20th Century Limited cars to go with the K-Line Hudson that is now at Pat "Harmonyards" for an upgrade.  I had two of the cars sitting on an 054 mainline curve from when I unboxed them and was checking the lighting.  I wanted to run a test train around the mainline, so I picked the cars up by hand and moved them to the curved passing siding.  I couldn't get all the wheels on the track.  Then I remembered my passing tracks have 042 curves thinking the biggest thing that would ever be on them would be H9 Consolidations.  Well, the 20th Century Limited will be running the mainline and all others will have to go to the siding, so it won't matter.  My layout is 11'x8'

These came in the mail today, building an outer loop for two postwar engines, using the plan from Oct 2007 CTT. Inner loop, sidings will utilize two Lionchief engines. Might have to see if one of the drawf signals can be changed from red to yellow and have a flashing relay. Don’t want to hack them up, expect the bulbs are soldered in.

Ending buying the ZW from Hennings Trains and love it.  I also got a Lionel Rocket launcher for my layout since I do so much work with Redstone Arsenal why not add a rocket to the layout.

BAMBAM,  the ZW looks great!  I had Hennings refurbish my ZW adding surge suppression for the electronics in modern trains.  Very nice job!  Good idea adding the rocket launcher!

Picked up the Williams 70-ton locomotive, Trainworld had them for $159.99.  Obviously, these didn't sell as fast as Williams thought they might.

Got it in the morning, and by afternoon it was full command control, I used the ERR Cruise Commander Lite and the Gas Powered motorized unit ERR RailSounds Commander.  I also gave it better headlights and a command controlled cab light.  Sadly, electrocouplers weren't in the cards, the oddball coupler mounts make that a very difficult task.  I did it with identical couplers on the Williams 44-ton locomotive and decided I'd never do that again!

Here's the command version pulling a few tank cars on it's maiden run.

Looks great, John.  Thank you for the tip; I won’t try putting electrocouplers on my Williams 44-ton when I put in ERR

Nice John.    Great price.

Will the couplers operate with the Lionel or MTH electromagnet track sections ? 🤔

Good plan, it is a royal PITA.  You can read about it here.

Yep, I left the stock couplers on it.

I also picked up the Williams 70 ton Rutland diesel. I got it yesterday. Regrettably, nothing else jumped out at me at Trainland so I came home with just the one engine.

I have a ERR mini commander and sound set that I was going to put in a Kline Boxcab but I may follow John's lead and do this one first. It's a nice looking engine with decent detailing. As John said, metal hand rails would have been an improvement.

Here's the maiden voyage (with Williams sound). It would have been nice if they added a cap to hold the sound when changing direction.

A big clue about removing the handrails for disassembly.  The little square pads at the bottom have some sort of glue on them.  After breaking one handrail, I figured that out.  What I did for the rest of them was to take my flush cutting wire cutters and gently squeeze around the base right on the chassis until the glue broke free.  That allows you to remove the handrails much easier, hopefully without damage.  Only the bases are glued, the ends of the rails stuck into the plastic shell are not glued, those just gently pull out.

Thank you for the link, John!  I don’t remember seeing this back six years ago.  I bought the 44-ton with the idea of repainting it to match a photograph I have of the unit that was at the power station I worked at too many years ago.  I wouldn’t feel as bad messing up the bargain basement Williams than I would messing up the more expensive MTH 🤪

Thanks for the tip John. I already broke one rail on my 44 ton, I wasn't too eager to fiddle with these even though they are thicker. I have a nice pair of flush diagonals that will do the job.

That's a good deal on the 70 tonner.  I was in Trainland just before Thanksgiving and that deal wasn't yet available but I did snag the CN 44 tonner I posted previously for $129.  I this one was available at that time.

I saw the sale a few weeks ago and was on the fence because I don't model any of the road names. Then I looked up the Rutland and found a winner. Yes- the inventory in the store was a little low. They had one of the new Lionel LC 0-6-0 tanks in the case but I want the Brooklyn Eastern model and they didn't have it. The shop was busy which was nice to see.

I have a LIRR RS-1 w/ PS3 on pre-order so I will be back there soon I hope.

Bob, the Rutland engine really looks great!

Thanks Mark. After buying their 44 tonner I figured the 70 would be of equal quality. I can't justify $400 + for the PS3 models, even thought they look great.

The MTH 44-ton locomotive is great... except...

It has a major issue over almost any kind of switch!  It's been written about here before, it appears it's actually connectivity through the wheels and not a problem with center track pickups.  I haven't spent the time to stick some wipers on the wheels to see if that solves it's problem, right now it's a shelf queen.

Sounds like some good deals at Trainland .

How much would it be for giving it the command  control systems minus , of course , the electro couplers ? 🤔

That's the $64,000 question.  I once build replacement handrails for a Lionel Trainmaster, but it was a PITA by the time I was done.  For the 70-ton locomotive I put the old railings back on.  I had only slightly mangled them before I found the trick to removing them.

See arrow, that one was my screwup.

I see plenty of 1:1 locos with bent rails.

Call it weathering

Doing this as three separate posts.

First set, my new buds at Berwyn's delivered 6 cars which were part of their custom runs. 2 Burlington reefers, 1 Soo, 1 Grand Trunk and 2 ICG boxcars. Also ran into Tim at the Wheaton Train Show last weekend.  I've met him once at his Berwyn store and he recognized me mask and all. I was at a disadvantage, but he made a few comments so I quickly figured out who he was. He has quite a talent at remembering faces and people. Not bad for meeting someone once!

2nd Set - As long as I was on the topic of the Wheaton Train Show.  Here are a couple of cars I picked up. GN hopper, State of Main and C&NW boxcars. Bought the GN to replace a Railking version and could not help myself with the State of Maine Box car. I've seen it on several layouts and it sure stands out, so what the heck.  At the bottom right I picked up a bunch of pines and assorted trees all 8 to 16 feet tall. The firs are what caught my attention. I think its a bottle brush tree with the branches swept down then covered with fine ground foam.  Got several ideas from these trees, so for a buck a piece I figured it was a decent deal.

This scene looks great and you read my mind. I was wishing for a better view of the bridge and here it is.

3rd set - when you are on a roll, don't stop.  From my long time friends at TRAINZ,  pulled the trigger and bought a few more items.  Two for me are noteworthy; the Lionel Milwaukee Road Pup trailers and the Corgi Milwaukee Road panel truck.  I think I have a thing for the color "orange",  the Fighting Illini and Chicago Bears wear orange, so why not my trains?  Being from the Midwest corn and soybeans and pigs and fowl are big things, so had to have the Wayne Feeds hopper from Atlas to add to my grain hoppers. Truly and impressive car with how the covers open to allow loading.

John, Thanks for the response. Nice recovery. If that is as bad as it gets, life is good. Pat B.

Thanks guys.  Yeah, I bought it used and received it today.  Before putting it on the track, I popped the shells on both A's.  I oiled the spindles on the smoke fan motors.  I noticed that the batting looked brand new.  And it was bone dry.  So while I had the shells off, I added enough smoke fluid to thoroughly saturate both.  It was 40+ drops for each!   You see the result.  Smoking like an MTH.

Picked this Lionel Prewar 801 Wabash caboose at last Sunday’s Wayne NJ train show for $5.00.
I Cleaned the caboose, and as you can see it came out very nice for being over 100 years old.
I was surprised on how the wheels/axles turned out after cleaning the rust off
From by research, it was MFG in 1917 and is not a candidate for repaint as it was loved by someone

I also purchased CP-7 couplers and a Con-50 manual reversing switch, all prewar reproduction parts.

@ScoutingDad love Trainz and love those pick-ups ya got!! I really like Corgi's "Fallen Flags" series of RR vehicles- there's some pretty neat ones and that van is certainly one of them! Also- those ps-4 wooden flats are some of the best cars Lionel has made in recent years, IMO, mainly due to their versatility(except when there's a fixed load) but the Toffee 20' pups don't fall into that category. I have a few different trailers and like trying them out of different mfgs. cars- but especially on my ps-4 PUP toffee. Nice haul!

@RonH nice piece of tin you got yourself! For $5 that's a good price and it's not in junker condition either. Awesome job cleaning it up- do you have/do you plan on getting some freight to go with it?

@MikeH that's a really sweet ABA set of the GM&O. Got my first GM&O a few weeks back and have enjoyed reading up on the line. Those diesels look incredibly well-done, well-detailed, and spew diesel exhaust like In see it in my dreams! Ha. Awesome stuff!

@Jdjones24 man that sounds like a great haul!! I love the K-line version of the metro link and associated bombardiers, love the espee as well!! Sounds like you really went all out on those 21' passenger cars- good for you! You'll have to show us some pics- at least of the metrolink and SP SD40t!

Some recent deliveries- have been trying to gather some new freight. Took advantage of the Trainz triple point promotion the week of 12/6 to 12/12 so I got quite a few items. Main focus was on ATSF and UP, atlas items at good prices, covered hoppers, and box cars. I'll start with some of the items that don't necessarily fit the above...

My "military train" . Was very happy to find and score the Atlas Troop car- converted into  DOD Guard car G56 which is actually on display at the Arkansas RR museum! The Atlas O Coil car and Weaver United  States Army Boxcar I got from @Beth Marshall from PDT- thanks Beth!

%22army train%22 Guard Car Coil Car US Army box car

Love my patched/stamped cars! Coil car is former NS, now marked for GE railcar services

Atlas O GE Rail Services patched coil car

Lionel Conrail 60' single door boxcar(Trainz) and MEC Pan Am 50'6" atlas trainman(ebay). Love Conrail for its versatility in freight consists

Conrail 60' PanAm MEC 50'

Better shot of the Pan Am boxcar! Always wanted one, finally found one for a reasonable price. I do like the modern safety stripes on the side

PanAm 50'6%22 LNL IMC Canada CF Hopper

Last for this post- two gondolas from Trainz: Lionel CSX 65' mill gondola(again love the safety stripes) and MTH BC Rail with load(load removed-carrying screwdriver ha). The Mill gon dwarfs my 52' gondolas so I've been keeping it separated. Both really nice gons!

Lionel CSX 66' Mill Gon MTH BC RY 52' Gon

Will try to get more up later!

Really nice Chevys and Plymouth, Dave!!  My second car was a '73 Plymouth Satellite, the first was a '69 Ford Galaxy XL.  You can tell the auto manufacturers had gotten into the space race!

We had a 73 Satellite too Mark. That 318 had some punch. It looked like the local PD cruisers too so I got away with a little too much when I drove it.
My first car was a 73 Dart- 218 slant 6.

My first was a 68 Dart GT with 273 V8 and a posi rear.  I never legally registered it but I did take it out just a few times before I got my license.  Then I had a 74 Valiant with the 225 slant 6, I think it was.  I totaled it one day driving home from HS.  I totaled a lot of cars back then (early 1980s).  Actually the first car I totaled was a 1973 Chevy Vega, being chased by the police (not very fast) in a snowstorm when I was in 8th grade, 1978 or 79 I guess it would have been.  Supposedly I was home babysitting my younger siblings.  Dad was a little mad that night.

Speaking of "Buy anything cool lately?", I expect to take delivery tomorrow of a new set of Lionel Legacy PA diesels.  The New Haven line in classic black and red!  This is a replacement for the pair of the same supposedly "delivered" to me 2 weeks ago by FedEx.  Their "proof of delivery" is the driver's note "left at garage."  I don't have a garage and, at the moment, neither do I yet have that pair of New Haven PA diesels.  In an email today, Lionel assured me this set arriving tomorrow is the very last set they have in stock.  I hope they got the full $999.99 from FedEx on the "lost" set that is probably under the driver's Christmas tree right now....

Dave, nice set of Mopar's and the new pink one really jumps out at you. The Honda car was before it's time in the USA, Honda didn't start importing cars into the US until 1970. Buy hey, somebody could have special ordered it. It would be a conversation piece in those days, "I thought Honda only made motorcycles"? I like it, that's a cool find and a great addition to your layout. Dig your posts!

Is your layout ready to run some trains and do some videos? I'm looking forward to that!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!

Brand spanking new!!!

I ordered this in the Fall of 2020, and forgot all about it until I received an e-mail from Lionel Store saying that my credit card was declined.  After getting that all sorted out on Tuesday, I was shocked to find the train only two days later.  I am loving it, though.  These cars are pretty close to scale, and seem gigantic compared to what I usually get in O gauge. It's a Festivus Miracle!

IMG_1864IMG_1865

The GP7 is oriented to be short hood forward, but I prefer the long hood forward look.  It runs smoother this way over my O27 track, too.

WOW JD.

Now that is the way to spruce up this thread. WOW

These just missed Christmas! These are the new Erie Lackawanna 21” passenger cars from Lionel. I picked up the 4 and 2 packs. The Tavern car is a real treat with the “Phoebe Snow” placards painted on. I also appreciate that lionel used the mostly correct tooling for this car, rather then the rounded observation car. Hi Dave, is that the pedestal it came on? If it is, its a '55 Nissan. I'm not sure it's a ford, what did the box say, I'm curious! The weathering however is top notch, cause in the '70's that's probably what it would look like. LoL

So I decided to pick up a secondary resolution this year, that is to actually get myself a proper Christmas train that isn't just 2 cars from the Bass Pro Christmas set combined with a 2010 holiday boxcar, these are the first two cars for this new train, a present dump car and a candy cane flatbed. I don't have the uncoupler track to activate the dumper, but honestly knowing my trash luck I'd dump the cargo and lose 5 of the presents on the first go so I'm not concerned about that.

For the longest time, I have been telling myself that I really have to stop looking at Grzyboski’s website... fortunately, I have learned to ignore the voices in my head

A year or two ago, they had a NOS Lionel Dreyfuss Hudson from 2002 which I jumped on (definitely one of my favorite NYC steamers). Well a recent thread about NYC passenger cars got me thinking/looking, and low and behold, Grzyboski’s had a NOS set of the 20th Century Limited passenger cars issued along with the Hudson in 2002!!! They are 15” aluminum cars and are beautiful. They are also pretty heavy. And while I’m on the topic, unlike the current 21” passenger cars, the 2002 cars come securely packed. No flimsy plastic clamshells.
