Thanks, I did see that. I was hoping for comments from those that had them restored knowing we are a bit of a finicky bunch!!

From all that I have seen, his work is spectacular. Had a few friends with GG-1s from him and Santa Fe F3's.

Now if you are a postwar guy paying $450 for a red box car because it has a shell molded in green plastic your milage may vary. 😊

Looking to potentially have a set or two redone. Thanks!

Jeff, if you would like new shells made by LIONEL go to N. LIMA TRAINWORKS website.  They have LIONEL's reissued, PW-style, SF and Western Pacific F-3 shells.

Just go to "Search Products," use Santa Fe and Western Pacific as search terms, and they'll show up.

I really wish they had pics on their site...

Jeff, do the search on NLTW"s website; then, using the p/n they supply, go to LIONEL's service parts search function and insert the p/n.  If LIONEL has a photo, it will show up.  And with the F-3's, the LIONEL photos always show up with the NLTW supplied p/n's in my experience.

In other words, LIONEL's website will supply the photos of the NLTW inventory of shells.

There prices are a couple of bucks less than L&L but are the shells the 2333/43 stye with the screen tops and hand rails or are they the 2353 and later stye without the screen tops and nose handrails? Do the come with the portals and letters installed and if the earlier type with screens and nose grab rails? If the shells have sentimental value you should think about that but then if you put replacement shells on are you running your trains? Just a thought because I have been thinking about sending the shells of my first train which is 2353 War Bonnets had new since December 1953
