Do you copy and paste the posts one at a time?  I tried copying multiple posts at the same time and it was a dogs breakfast to say the least!

I would say that you would have to copy the text from each post and paste into your new one. If you are trying to copy all the headers and reply boxes, it's going to look like a train wreck..... or what come out the other end of said dog......

Excellent question. The original topic is about converting MTH passenger cars to led lighting. Then along the way it somehow morphed into a discussion about marker leds for cabeese. Which is quite different.

Rather than try to copy a group of individual posts, I think you'd do better to post *one* link to the chain of posts you're trying to divert to a new and separate thread (with an explanation giving directions on the topic you want to highlight), then separately post copies of any individual posts to which you want to reply or expand upon. IOW, a general link to the part of the preceding thread you're trying to separately discuss, and thereafter post copies of posts relevant to the ongoing new discussion. That way, you provide research/review access to the entire prior thread at need, without cluttering up the new thread with (likely mostly irrelevant ) archive posts. Just MHO . . .

Perhaps better option for this would be to ask the moderators to fork a post into an entirely new topic.

You won't see this as an option on your screens, but we moderators do. Just use "Report Reply" to report the post and ask that it be used to fork into an entirely new topic. This will only bring the reported post into the new topic, but that's better than the copy and paste method.

Useful info, Rich, but wouldn't that leave the "forked" message orphaned from the rest of the following responses to it, or are they moved (or at least linked) also? If the "forked" message (and I'll forego the obvious joke here . . . ) is removed from the prior thread, that might also muck up the clarity of *that* thread.

I still think posting a link to the prior discussion in the old thread, plus perhaps copies of selected posts as relevant, to the new thread (plus perhaps a redirecting post in the old thread), would be the cleaner way to relocate the ongoing discussion. Just sayin' . . .

Ok got it thanks!
The problem is when you open one of your own posts, there is no “Report Reply” option. (Kind of makes sense) So I went to the post immediately above where I thought it should fork and asked to have everything thereafter “forked”.
