I was watching several shows that happened to document the robotic production of computers and then there was the one that demonstrated the making of formerly cast parts, instead by CAD and automated water jet cutting on blocks of metal and then there was the one about 3D prototyping..Has production of model trains significantly changed since they were introduced? Or at least with my morning coffee I wondered if these streamlined production techniques were applicable and if so, would they impact production costs? Or would they up front development of these being introduced be such a capital outlay that it just could not be justified even if it were feasible? I was talking to someone who mentioned a major cost is the tooling of production molds and then theres the old issue of who owns the molds? Could this become a thing of the past? So much talk has been over software and other cutting edge techniques, what about production?
