The Casey Jones Chapter TCA has started construction of a new traveling layout for our train show.
Moving the old layout up and down stairs at our club location, the availability of vehicles large enough to move the layout, and the number of members healthy enough to do the lifting of the sections of the layout has forced us to build a mew layout.
Light weight heavy duty foam will be used to make the modules that will have very little wood in their construction. Latches used to connect furniture sections will be used to lock the modules together. A folding frame built using 2x2’s will be used to support the modules on plastic saw horses. We will be able to move the new layout in two SUV’s and only two guys would be needed to load and move the layout.
The new layout will be ready for our October TCA Train Show.
here are a few pictures.
Building the folding frame and wood slats with dowels needed to alingh the modules. Furniture locks connect the modules and hold them in place.
Assembling the 2x2 folding frame that will support the modular layout on the saw horses.
Installing the slats with the alinghment Dowrls.
Test fitting the modules for one side of the layout.
More pictures after this coming Saturday’s work session.
Have a safe and fun 4TH of July!
