This 2328 from two years ago has always been a great runner, but coming out for thefirst time this year, the unit is running a bit weird.  Not enough speed in any

direction, and reluctant in reverse about half the time.  Actually the reverse

tends to hang up every second time you enter it. Everything else is working fine

so it's not some other issue here.  The loco has about three to four hours of

time on it, and like I said...last year-no problems.   Also, FWIW, the horn doesn't

want to work at all now.  Transformer is a Lionel 1033. Ideas? suggestions?

no clue as far as the horn goes.  On all my cc engines - they work sometimes & sometimes they don't.  Can't figure out a reason.  Did the board become loose?

AS far as the motor - did you check to make sure there is oil & grease?  I've found of late, that when I pull an engine (PW or MPC) off the shelf & they are sluggish that a quick of the gear box (if the engine has a separate motor/power truck)to make sure there is grease, a some oil on the motor as well as giving the motor plate & brushes a good cleaning to make sure all electrical contact is flowing usually would solve the problem.  I did this for my 8206 Hudson & 8551 EP5 last week after they were acting in the manner you describe & they run super now.

I always find when an engine has been sitting for an extended period of time that the brushes and armature needs touching, 9 out of 10 pulmores for me solve this problem

If this don't work, then the eunit is next, lastly I add a new ground wire.

Also I have found engines lacking the horseshoe shaped grounding spring, some have it on top of the frame under the motor , some have it on the bottom of the frame next to the truck, I found very little difference where it was, as long as it was clean and making good contact.

Can motors are another problem, I know little about them, they go to the repair man, not me.

Remember too much lube is worse than none at all.  Good luck!!!!
