I joined TCA around January 2013, and I would like to know what is one supposed to do when selling an item that has been repainted, of unknown origin, or say has been kitbashed, modified or repaired. Am I supposed to put a sticker on on them? Do I have to grade them?

For example, I want to sell a IC B unit shell that I believe came from the Carail auction, but I don't have proof that it did, and I don't have proof that it didn't, I was only interested in having an affordable B unit.

Any piece that has been repainted, altered, has repro parts or is anything that is not original is supposed to have a repro/repainted sticker on it.  You can get these from any officer of your division or chapter.  They are also available at the National Toy Train Museum in Strasburg, Pa.  Don't put the sticker on a painted surface.  Try under the chassis some where or on the trucks.  Items that have been repainted no matter how great they look can only be considered to be rated as GOOD.  A missing small part just needs to be mentioned with a sticker but will not reduce the rating to good.

The stickers are recomended for restored trains, they are not required Unless your selling at a TCA show. What is required is honesty when presenting the item for sale. Just be straight forward about what you know, and you'll be in Compliance. You do not have to mark an item if you use a replacement part, but large repro parts should be noted.
