I picked up a 2025 engine that needs some cleaning. I have used the dawn and toothbrush method on other engines and it has worked well. The issue I’m having with this engine is that there seems to be a layer  of soot or something else that isn’t coming off the tender shell. It definitely has the weathered look going for it, but I was trying to get it a little cleaner than that. I tried a few different cleaners (alcohol, etc) on the inside of the shell but this didn’t remove the coating.

Any advise on what else I can try is appreciated…

I ran a quick test on the inside of the shell, and thought that the CLP looked a bit better (in the close up below, WD40 on the left and CLP on the right). I sprayed the CLP on the rest of the shell, and spread it around with a toothbrush, followed by a quick rinse. I think the shell looks a lot better now. Thanks to all for the advice!
