Is there a command to turn the cab light on and off on a Lionel #28078? I believe there is but am unable to find it in the manual. Probably just overlooking it. Does that same command turn the headlight on and off?

Cab lights stay on all the time on Lionel TMCC locos, no command to shut them off.
FWIW, on legacy locos the cab light automatically turns off when the loco gets under way and comes back on when its stopped but I don't belive they can be turned on or off via the remote.
Thank you.

The command to toggle the cab light is:
Aux2, Brake, Aux2
This is for Legacy engines. Most TMCC engines are wired ON all the time.

If you upgrade with a Super-Chuffer, one of the features is cab light control.
Is there a cab light in the newest Lionmaster Challenger 6-82694? The features say illuminated inside cab, but no white light that I can see.
Chuck, I have the 3989 Lionmaster,& it doesn't have the cab light either.
Hmmm...wonder if the feature is on the electronics, but just not implemented.
I am pretty sure that the new Legacy Lionmaster Challenger has a cab light, look closer.
I will...
If I find one, I wonder how you turn it on...
If you've loaded the orange module, hold down AUX2 for a couple seconds, the secondary lighting screen comes up, It has controls for the markers, class lights, cab lights, etc.
If you do a reset of the locomotive, it should restore default operation, that would be the cab light on when stopped, off when moving.
I did that awhile back but I'll try it again. Seemed odd not to have a cab light...
I'm having trouble recalling any Legacy steamer without a cab light, I don't think I own one that doesn't have one in the half dozen I have. They are from early Legacy up to the most recent VL-BB, all have a cab light, and all turn on when stopped.

You seem to be confusing Legacy versus TMCC with your post. The others seem to report TMCC engine with out.
TMCC is limited to 5 output controls. 2 are couplers, the other 3 can be lights or 2 lights and smoke. If your TMCC engine is configured without smoke and the cab light can be on the output of the smoke TRIAC you can turn it on and off with Aux1 8 and 9. Since smoke is such an integral part of engines now a days, all the other lights on TMCC engine (smoke box, cab light, markers) are normally just on track power, motor power, CV regulator, or some combination. I don't understand your explanation. Are you saying that this steamer Legacy engine cannot support a headlight, smoke, tender coupler, backup light and a cab light too?
I have tried all of the suggestions above ,& i don't see any cab light come on with the new lion master challenger, I don't think there is any,has anyone else figured this out ?
Cab lights are generally clearly visible when you look into the cab, located high on the backhead. Is there a bulb there sticking out?
Pete
Nope.
Probably explains why you can't turn it on.
Pete
Well...there is some gap between the underside of the roof and the backhead. I thought maybe LEDs could illuminate from behind there.
Chuck I think you could add a light. I don't have pin outs for the latest Legacy boards but would expect they have pin for a cab light. Might have to reverse engineer a new board to find out which pin it is.
Pete
Initial question was about TMCC engines with cab light, then folks hijacked the thread with Legacy engines.
An R2LC or R4LC based engine has limited outputs for lights or smoke. 3 total.
Newer Legacy with the single composite boards is a different issue.
Whether and engine has a cab light or not is another issue. But if TMCC or Modular Legacy Steam, they usually are just 18V bulbs wired to track voltage.
As far as new legacy, trying to add still may not work as each engine has it's own software package loaded. So without software you might not have a light even if you wired one in. G
I checked with Lionel today, and the word is that the
Lionmaser Challenger noes not have a cab light. No further information was given.
It's a super engine. Great sounds, etc. The whistle smoke is a little hard to see behind the main smoke, but great smoke anyway.
Oh well...on the cab light.
Could you put a cab light in & hook it up to track power?,it would be on all the time but at least there would be a light in the cab, just asking.

The $64000 questions is have any of the previous LIONMASTER locos had cab lights. I had a few TMCC versions but can't remember. Perusing videos online, it does not appear that Lionmaster steamers have had cab lights outside of the flickering firebox, of course.
This could another be a case of "one size fits all" in the manuals description of features that Lionel is so well known for.
I'd be more concerned about the missing brake shoes, how do you stop that thing when theres no train behind it?

Sure you can. You can add track power light to anything you want. Just pick an 18V bulb, or and LED with properly sized current limiting resistor based on track voltage. G
Not to beat a dead horse here but in my quest for a cab light, I noticed this initial screen when the Lionmaster Challenger is addressed by the programmed number. I wonder what this "cab" button with the image of a light bulb is for on the CAB2 keypad. When you press any key, it goes away never to be seen again unless you reload the initial screen.

My "add a cab light" thoughts included wondering if the feature was in the software for the Lionmaster Challenger, just not implemented since there is no physical LED. And which pin would it be...
I don't think I am going to pursue it since the light is not that important to me, just wondering. Maybe on some cold wintery day it could be a project. Not so much is known about the new Legacy boards...yet.
I have the Legacy LionMaster PRR T1 Duplex, it has an operating cab light.
