Comparison of SD70ACE Premier and Imperial Engines - MTH 20-2621-1 and MTH 30-2988-1

I would like to make a comparison between these 2 engines from MTH.

I have 2 of the 20-2621-1 Premier models (road numbers 4833 and 4839). I would also like to see the Imperial version for comparison.

Note: Anyone who has the Imperial version is invited to contribute to this posting.

The M.T.H. SD70ACe is a RailKing Imperial diesel, accurately decorated in modern motive power paint schemes. These near-scale models are a full 17" in length, yet operate comfortably on O-31 curves. Under the hood of the Proto-Sound 2.0 versions are the same sound and control system found in our more expensive Premier models of these locomotives - complete with sounds recorded from an actual Union Pacific SD70ACe. Additional Imperial features on the Proto-Sound versions include operating diesel exhaust smoke and flashing ditch lights.

ChuckB:

Thanks for posting your photos of the Imperial CSX SD70ACE.  I would like to see some other photo shots of your engine with close up details.

Other than the overall length it appears that the engines are very close except for some small details.

The downside of the Premier engines is that they require larger radius track and turnouts.  I have a minimum of O-54 track and O-72 turnouts.

Your Premier engines will operate fine on O-54 track, so if that's the minimum on your layout, there's no issue.

I presently own the Railking and I am thoroughly impressed.  For my small layout(4x8) it runs the tracks well and at least to this rookies eyes and ears looks and sounds like the real thing!  I have only seen the scale premiere version at my local hobby store and must say it is majestic looking.  Overall I am pleased with my imperial!!  Runs smooth!

I think I may have been mistaken.  The engine I mentioned above came from the MTH RTR 2011 catalog number 30-4213-1.  I dont exactly know if what I said above is the same engine.  I do apologize.  I still love my train though!  Good luck!
