I am having a confusing problem with Legacy. I don’t know if it is an engine, the 990 or both acting up.
I have a 990 and a Z-4000 transformer (using 18 volts). This has been set up and working for a while. There are four engines programmed into the remote. There is one on the layout at the moment (Lionmaster Challenger) that has been working fine.
Today I tried to set up a new engine (Lionel 6-28279 SD-70). I tried to program it as engine 6. When I hit “set”, the cab light flashes. After switching to run nothing happens, the engine is dead. The remote is also goofed up. If I switch to the Challenger (and any of programmed engines) the programmed information is lost and the Challenger headlight is flashing and will not work. If I power everything down and back up, the Challenger functionality returns, but the SD-70 is still dead. Now if I address an engine number that is not programmed, the functionality is again lost until power down and up.
At different times I have powered down and back up the remote. Sometimes when I do this I get a “base not found” message. I have to power everything down and back up again. I tried changing to channel 2 with no change. Tried the reset button on the remote with no change. I did add two engines successfully last week. I also put fresh batteries in the remote and checked 990 connections to the layout.
The SD-70 does work in conventional though a little erratic.
I am very confused and a call to Lionel is probably needed on Monday, but would appreciate any suggestions in the mean time.
Thanks
Bill
