Hello could you Gentlemen and ladies please give a short revue of the Lionel Dreyfus Hudson 6-28084 from I think 2002

1: I would like to know if the sound system is up to date within reason to modern sound systems?

2: Does the Odyssey system work well on this engine?

3: Are there any outstanding problems issues that you have found?

Looking to purchase and want to make sure it meets expectations and compares to Our other modern and contemporary Lionel and MTH engines

Thank you very much for your time and efforts.

a very nice engine but it is RS4 and it does not have odyssey and the smoke units in those days were very weak. Also it is 2 chuffs  per revolution. You really can't compare it to any modern locomotive from about 2005 on which was the start of RS5 and odyssey. Even though most RS 5 engines also had 2 cuffs per revolution.

I was going to get the Lionel version but passed when the matching passenger cars were the 15 inch length. I ended up getting the MTH version from the 2006 catalog. These were painted in a darker gray than the 2000 MTH version. I got the one with the Scullin Disc drivers and the PT centipede tender. There are 4 versions available.

Thank you all Very much for your input and opinions. I can live without the plumes of smoke the newer engines give off. I am mainly concerned with operation of speed control and sound system and my sons are very critical of those features and will compare this to the engines we have now which are newer MTH and Lionel. They like them to crawl and have great sound. I just was hoping it didn’t sound like the 1-700 Hudson or a PS-1 engine.

I take it that it is comparable to 777 Commodore Vanderbilt or a PS-2 Mth engine?

Would I be correct to assume this?

Most likely a little better then the CV 777 of which I have and is 7 years older then the dreyfuss.Sounds are much better then any proto 1 I have ever owned.

Don't get me wrong it sounds fine but don't expect RS 5 and above quality. It's a great looking engine and the sounds are not up to today's standards but still a great piece to have if your paying a fair price for it. I myself would not pay above $500.00 for it.

Good luck,

Dave

A Vision Dreyfus Hudson, I hope, in the next catalog!

Lee - Lionel cataloged a Dreyfus Hudson in 2008 (6-11148) with Legacy, but it was canceled.

Late to the party, as usual (I must force myself to sit in front of the computer

for more than 30 minutes a day) - my Lionel Dreyfuss has been fine; good sound, good

performance, good looks. I saw one for not-too-bad at auction a while back and

almost...no, no, enough.

I had forgotten the cancelled Lionel Legacy Dreyfuss from 2008. What? A cancelled NYC

Hudson? A disturbing "trend"? (I think that a "trend" requires more than one data point..)

Oh yeah . . . I recall having my eye on that  . . . . It's rare that a loco I want is cancelled but it happens, and I am very disappointed every time any cancellation like that would happen.

I really hope they do a Vision version.  Given how much I would run the loco and its importance I would wanta really top shelf model.
