I'm pretty sure I know what my options are, but thought I'd throw this out to the forum gang.

I have 3 Atlas 60' Pass. Cars., Undec., that I purchased primarily to incorporate into my Troop Train.  My problem is that the Atlas cars all consistantly have lower couplers compared to any other Engine/Car in my consist.

I also intended to make one of them a transition car, as my Weaver Troop cars are all kadee equiped, and even the kadee on the Atlas is low.  I solved that with a washer between truck and body.  Old HO trick.

The train has a considerable amount of drag, my Lionel Berk slips a lot before moving out! With the coupler low on the head end car, the slightest varience in the layout and "poof" train uncouples.

Thoughts....

There are several options available from Kadee that may solve your problem.  Here is a post on the Three Rail Scale forum that pictures the options.  The Kadee 847 underset shank would raise the coupler slightly. 3/32" Same mounting height.

Helpful diagrams from the Kadee site. A lot of information on this page.
Note that 1 1/16" is 11/16"
Kadee 805

Kadee 806 short

Kadee 847 Underset shank. Coupler center and mounting height are the same.
Kadee 742 Overset shank Increases mounting height.

The kadees are not the problem, it's the 3-rail couplers.  As the engines have electro couplers, I need a transition car.  The cars, Atlas, are all low.  Even if I were not using the Troop cars, the Atlas cars would be a problem.  I'm a long time HO modeler, I know all about kadee.  I'm thinking MTH trucks on the Atlas cars, but just not sure how.

I have many Atlas freight cars, and there are no height differences in them.  Only the passenger cars.  I found that "odd" too.  But I doubt it is limited to my three cars.  Rarely are passenger cars mixed with freight so the height descrepancy probably doesn't present itself often.  I may just run the train without them for now.  These are undec. cars so I may even sell them, who knows!
