A few years ago I installed Cruise Lite boards in an MTH Doodlebug and MTH Galloping Goose.  At that time there was no ERR Gas Engine Railsound board, so I installed Alco PA boards for the horn and start-up sounds.  I recently got 2 ERR Gas Engine Railsound boards to replace the Alco PAs.  I installed one of the new boards in the Goose (simple-3 wire plugs).  When I tested it, I got start-up sounds and about 15 seconds of idle and then, all sound stopped.  There is now no sound, no whistle, bell, tower or crew talk.  I then re-installed the Alco board back in the Goose to see if I had done something to cause the problem but, all Alco sounds worked as before.  I then installed the new Gas Railsound board in another engine with Cruise Lite and no sound.  I then installed the Gas board in an engine with a Cruise Commander board and no sound.  So, the Gas Railsound board is dead.

My concern is, might there be a compatibility problem between the new ERR sound boards and the old Cruise Lite boards.  I had planned on installing the 2nd Gas engine board in the Doodlebug and, also, two new medium steam boards in locomotives with a couple more Cruise Lite boards, that I still have.  But, I am reluctant to do that.

I called ERR Sunset 3rd Rail this afternoon and had a very pleasant conversation with a woman who told me, as I expected, to just return the dead board for a replacement.   When I told her of my concern about old Cruise Lite/new Railsound boards, she asked if I was on the O Gauge Forum, and suggested post here; that while they were licensed for ERR, their technical expertise was in locomotive design and production.

I would appreciate any ideas, suggestions or, knowing if anyone else has  the same or similar experience.

Thanks

George

The CC-Lite uses the same circuit and serial data as the full Cruise Commander.  There is no compatibility issue between the two boards as far as the serial data output for the RS Commander boards from ERR.

Check the cable you used from the CC-Lite to the RS Commander.  It sounds like you have something mis-wired.

FWIW, when the CC-Lite first came out, I upgraded the RMT BEEP with the Cruise Lite and the new RS Commander, they play perfectly together years later.

As a follow-up.  I received a replacement board from Sunset 3rd Rail, installed it and everything works great in the Goose.  GRJ, I've done a few dozen ERR Cruise/Railsounds installations, so I was confident in the wiring.  I, also, called Scott at Sunset and thanked him for the prompt handling of the board replacement, and I told him that was the first ERR Cruise or Railsounds board failure that I have had, of the dozens I have installed.  We are very lucky that Sunset 3rd Rail (Scott), kept ERR going and available to us.
