Went to Mentor Ohio this evening. Saw quite a few CSX trains. But the best catch was CSX eastbound loaded military train W904-31 lead by YN2 Dash 9 #9048 & YN3b flared radiators SD70MAC #4825.

Also 2 bonus photos I took of CSX westbound intermodal Q165 lead by 2 Canadian Pacific AC4400CW's followed later by CSX westbound local freight C729 lead by a Road Slug & GP40-2.

Looks like a M777 155mm towed Field Howitzer. It has a longer barrel than its predecessor. The Army has also been testing the latest M777ER Extended Range version, with a barrel almost 8 feet longer yet, different propellants and projectiles, and a range of 40 miles! Here are the two side-by-side, with the ER version in the foreground.

Do you know if the current  M777 is longer than the long tom's I remember (we still had the same  WW2 versions when I was in the NG, field artillery, although my unit had the short version).

I guess we now have a long tom and a longer tom.  (and maybe a longest tome, 4 man lift version)

Doing just a little research, it looks like the original Long Tom had a barrel that was 22'10" long. The M777ER has a barrel that's a bit over 24'6" long, but longer barrels have also been tested.  The regular M777 has a barrel length of 16'7". Apparently the ER version has a range of up to 43 miles. A ramjet-equipped projectile that may be introduced should have a range of up to 60 miles. There's a self-propelled version of the ER as well.

With the popularity of this post, here is the video I took. And the reason it's under that bridge is do to for the photos I didn't want the shadow casts from the bridge above. Also, with the background of the bridge, you can see the Military / Army equipment better.

And this train was doing track speed of 60MPH.

From what I could see in the video it appears to be equipment from either a combat engineers or a heavy construction engineers battalion a lot of earth movers and lowboy trailers.  The engineer was definitely making good time though, any idea hat the speed limit is in that area?

Trackspeed for Intermodal, Auto & Military is 60.

Freight is 50

& passenger is 79.
