Hello to everybody

I have searched the forum and learned a bit about the DCS Remote Commander Set, but the answers were confusing me...   (and if I am honest, I don't have a clue about the stuff)

I have a MTH 4-4-4-4 T1 Duplex (item N° 20-3043-1) equipped with PS1. As I do not have much space, my idea is to put the engine on a DRB (Dynamic Running Base) and enjoy the functions (movement/horn/whistle/steam etc.) from time to time.

A pretty cool thing would be to use the MTH Remote Commander Set (item N° MTH 50-1033, see also attached picture). Now my questions are:

1) would the DCS Remote Commander Set run a PS1 engine?

2) do I necessarily need a MTH power brick or would any appropriate power brick be sufficient to run just 1! engine?

If I got it wrong and the DCS Remote Set is not suitable for a PS1 engine, which simple MTH transformator is recommandable for powering the DRB and some of the T1's functions?

Thank you for your help and sorry if a similar question has already been posted before (i.e. a proof that I am too stupid to use the search function properly

Regards

Stefan

The DCS Remote Commander is for operating one PS2/PS3 equipped engine. It will not operate a PS1 engine.

You can get one of the JAK roller assemblies and put your engine on it and connect it to a transformer and it will run in place.

MTH also offered a remote a couple of years ago with their starter sets that was different from the current remote.

You might do a search of the MTH product locator to see if they are still available.

Maybe someone else with more knowledge can chime in on this.

PS1 is not a command control system. It's simply a sound system piggybacked atop a slightly advanced reverse unit.

The remote being described by Trainman9 is an infrared controller that operates a voltage-control box hooked between a transformer and the track. I don't know if it was ever offered for seperate sale--only in starter sets for a relatively short period of MTH's history.

If you're only going to run that one locomotive on a display stand, a MTH Z-1000 transformer should do just fine. It's a power brick with a seperate controller that contains a throttle knob and buttons for horn/whistle, bell and direction.

Stefan:

I have one if you want to buy it.  I realize not the buy/sell forum here, but this is specific to your query and you seem like you are looking for one.  Let me clarify, I have the remote and the lockon, so I have one set.

As GunrunnerJohn points out, having at least 75 watts is probably better.  But you will need a power source and I suggest an MTH transformer because you plug it directly into the back of the gray lockon.  The transformer has a power brick and from it is a cord that normally plugs into the controller.  With the set up you want, the cord plugs into the gray lock-on via what is called a barrel plug (it is a round female plug) that inserts into the back edge of a recepticle on the lockon.  There is a  metal tip in the center of the recepticle and that fits perfectly into the barrel plug that comes with power source brick.  So thus the reason I suggest you also buy an MTH transformer.

You can reach me off-line if you want the remote set.  My e-mail is in my profile.  And I know it works because I used it within the last year.  And all I have are PS-1s.

You're quite welcome, and I'm happy to share the info I found when looking into these!

I'll have to defer to John and others regarding compatibility of this setup with PS1 engines as I don't have any, but works great on my Williams and the one Loco-Sound engine I own.  Good luck!
