DCS wifi with Trainmaster base

Hi all

Posted this on the DCC forum. Got no replies so I'm trying it here.  Prob had it on the wrong forum anyway.

I have an old TIU with the 9 pin serial port and my Lionel Trainmaster base is plugged into it. This enables me to run Lionel CC engines off the MTH handheld remote. This 9 pin serial port is also where the cable for the DCS Wifi is supposed to plug in.  Does that mean that I cannot use the DCS WIFI unit?  I'm thinking a 9 pin serial port splitter would do the trick.  Any comments / help would be appreciated. 

Would the splitter cause damage to the TIU?
