Ah, another loyal member of the 15 SMPHFS (Scale Mile Per Hour Freight Society).

 

I have a theory about this. When you're a kid using only your imagination for your railroad empire, that non-scenicked circle is more engaging with higher speed. But with full scenery, a slow train moving through the scenery allows the eye to experience the train as part of the scenes, and the longer duration of the completion of the lap on a continuous run makes the layout seem larger.
