Another thread going right now is showing Dremel still the rotary tool of choice by most
My question
What is your favorite cutting wheel / disc for cutting track
Also what size --- is there a favorite width / diameter etc
Thanks in advance

I like the thin diamond wheels, for cutting track get the largest diameter wheel you can get so the cuts will be plumb. to get through the track with a smaller wheel requires you to cut at an angle to clear the body of the dremmel.
Over the last 10 years I have cut a LOT of Lionel tubular and Gargraves shadow rail track with a (Dremel) rotary tool and prefer to use 2" Gyros HT Fiber disks (1/32" thick, 1/8" center hole, 30K max RPM). I buy them online in packs of 12 disks (think they were about $15 - 17 for the 12 pack). I always cut the 2 outer rails first and then the center rail. They cut very well, last a long time, and I clearly recommend them. Good luck.
Joe,
If you really like your old Dremel, have you considered sending it to Dremel to fix it? They have great customer service and I've sent my own to them (way out of warranty).

Tool of choice for cutting track!!
I use the 1.5" fiber wheels and the flexible shaft attachment, allows you to get parallel to the track and cut straight through.
Joe S,
Although I no longer use a Dermel tool for much except very light work, (zoradt) Jim has the right idea, the Gyros fiber disk (1/32 in thickness with the 1/8 hole) ordered on line to keep the cost down, is the way to go for use with many different cutting tools, different sizes are also available for different jobs, no matter the tool you happen to use. Now however IMO there is a much better way to cut all different kinds of custom track, that makes a much cleaner more professional job, the Rockwell X2 portable table saw. Further the ROTO RZ 10 is a much higher grade tool for custom altering Engines like my Legacy Shay and other Tin Plate rolling stock. No matter which tool you choose,
purchasing high quality Bits, Blades & Wheels/Disks that get the job done on a longevity basis is a major part of using the tools.

When the track is already on the layout, it's a bit tough to do the cutting with a table saw.
Guns,
I do understand some kinds of track are hard to remove and re-install, however in my case I use FasTrack and remove the track pieces to custom rework them, when I don't, I use the ROTO RZ10 to custom alter the track on the layout.
