Does anyone know of a crossover table for the Dupont Duco Lacquer as used by EMD mid 1950s?  From what I am told by people familiar with DuPont paints (now Axalta Coatings) in the current RR industry, much of the Dupont paint history, including Duco, has been last from history at least officially.

What I am looking for specifically is from an EMD paint diagram.  Duco Orange  254-6276.

Apparently that knowledge is lost on this forum, too.

If your orange matches a particular railroad, such as Illinois Central, or Great Northern, or Texas & Pacific, to name a few, then the information is more likely to be found with the historical society for that railroad.  The original specifications for the paint might be in the archives there.  Just a thought.

There is no crossover between the Duco and Dulux colors and more modern paints.  These early paints were lead based and used metallic pigments.  Both the lead base and many of the pigments are toxic. Many of the vivid colors available in the early paints are not able to be produced with the modern organic pigments, so they had to just start over.

This color was on the only diesel of the Campbell's Creek Railroad, SW9 number 13.  A company owned coal hauler near Charleston, WV.

I have one picture in orange and the original EMD paint diagram information.  Built in 1953 and for some reason lost to time the orange was repainted to yellow in less than 5  years.  Pictures are none too easy to come by, I have or know of 1 in the orange, 5 in the yellow (3 taken on a 1958 fan trip) and 5 B&W.

There was a fellow who worked for DuPont that had all the original Duco and Dulux data with crossovers (or as close as there was) that he developed for the sake of preservation, I am working on obtaining his name.  Sadly he passed on and no one knew what happened to the information.

I have found many RR paint spec numbers,  but none for the T&P or none that had the Duco 254-6276 number.

My guess would be whatever T&P Swamp Holly Orange was, and it would be close enough for me for a modelCampbells Creek SW9 13 Reed WV 1955M2

My DuPont ( now Axalta ) rep comes to my shop every Friday. He’s made me colors from as far back as the 1930’s ....obviously in modern urethanes.....might be next week before he finds an answer.....I’m not sure what your looking to do with the Axalta paint, it would be ooooober expensive to paint a model with,........ are you just looking for an example?....so you can match up a jar of model enamel??....where exactly are you going with your request?.....

Thanks to the RYPN link , I was able to piggyback and find some more references.  DuPont 246-6276 is Omaha Orange (Great Northern), the question I can't seem to answer is what is the color and what is the paint type.  I would think 246, 254 (and whatever else) would be paint type, Duco, Dulux, etx and 6276 would be the color.  If that is the case Omaha Orange it is.
