Hi,  I have a 2056 Lionel engine that I'm trying to repair/clean for a friend.

I got it working great, including a functional e-unit.  The e-unit now works

great except that when I move the position of the lever arm to deactivate

the e-unit and put the train in one direction, the e-unit does not shut off.

It appears that the circuit is closed all the time and I have no idea what to

do or look for in order to get it to work right.

Thanks,

John

Recently I had the very problem that Dave and John described. The wire was shorted against the metal bracket that was holding the coil, right where it came out of the coil. In my case, I was able to nudge the wire over a bit, and put a bit of nail polish on it.

The fix may not last for ever, but it was my own piece. If a problem arises, I will address it then.

Hi Dave,

Good call. I looked at both coil wires but there was nothing obvious.  The wire that comes off the coil and goes to the ground of the lever, is at the the bottom of the coil and is sandwiched in between a plastic disk and the metal frame that houses the coil.  I suspected the insulation between the coil wire and frame was bad and decided to take the frame apart and put a new piece of insulation between the coil wire and the frame.  That did it.

Thanks,

John
