I spent Saturday morning working at our local park service helping with the Easter train. Lots of fun and lots of kids. We gave train rides to over 800 children in 4 hours.

Nice work Steve. There is more than one way to get kids interested in trains so thanks for doing your part.
The children who took the train ride were real great and did what the safety people told them to do. But much like the news of "over zealous" parents (mostly mothers as mentioned on the news) where Easter egg hunts had to be cancelled or shut down, we had the same problem with the train ride.
We had to keep a "safety" area open adjacent to the train for children to load and unload and when asking the mothers to move back we were faced with dirty looks, swearing and even being flipped off. I was shocked. There was a separate unloading area for parents to wait for their children.
I wish I had some kind of model train handout to give to the kids, they would have loved it.

Makes you wonder sometimes which ones are the kids... and which ones are the kids...
We went and rode the Blueridge Scenic Railway last weekend. I saw more adults NOT waiting their turn in line than kids.. My wife, who is a teacher, was beside herself. I had to remind her that they were adults, and that she wasn't at school... She told me "now you know why kids act the way the do". I concur. Sort of takes the fun out of it for everyone.
Enough of my rant, you just reminded me of it. Good job on the train ride. Sounds like all of the real kids had a great time...800 kids in 4 hours, you must have had your hands full.
Here are 2 chocolate train treats that my sister made for me to hand out when kids come to visit my Christmas layout. The 3 piece train set took her forever to make, according to her, but darn they sure were awsome!
