I’m somewhere around 70 cabooses in my collection right now but, two I’m particularly fond of are my Lackawanna Railroad and Atlantic Coast Line cabooses.

Both are MTH Northeastern style cabooses that were detailed and lightly weathered by a train club buddy.  The Lackawanna was also custom painted and lettered prior to the detailing and weathering.

To be more prototypical, the ACL caboose should have visors over the windows but; I’ve had an issue with occasionally breaking those off the Lackawanna caboose and asked him to leave them off the Coast Line.

Just had a caboose coup moments ago....bought an expensive book, "Waycars of the CB&Q", that l have lusted after since published. This prairie road had, l've heard, the largest menangerie of combine, side door, and drover cabooses, more than even the MP, whose caboose book l have.  I have built three rail models from it.  Did the Rock Island have a fleet similar to these competitors?  I have not seen photos of RI cabooses of these types. Is there a Rock book on early cabooses? My favorite std. gag. road, the D&RGW, had only a few, early drovers, as did the Salt Lake. The Colorado Midland was famous for it's side door beese.  Many of these are in HO brass , but DIY in three rail.

From Page 1:

Now - see below what happens when an evil Hi-Railer is left alone with one of these? They're steel, tough and cute as a button - and at least have an air of realism, so...

The green is a bit too light, I know. I may repaint one day, but I added window "glass" and I do not want to bend  tabs anymore to remove/protect it. Maybe a tidy darker paint road-name-area name patch job and re-decaling.

BTW - the end windows in the cupola are just black decals cut square, as Lionel didn't actually cut any holes on the sheet metal stamping for them. An easy, surprisingly effective fix.

even though you defiled a PRR cabin car in NYC colors.....I like it. And my 2472 has windows in the ends of the copula.

"Defile a PRR cabin car in NYC colors"? Oh, I'm still trying to compensate for the Williams scale die-cast Hudson that they sold lettered for Pennsy a few years ago. Painful.

You know, I do seem to recall glancing at one of these cabeese at a show, with cupola end windows. I didn't actually stop and look. I guess you have the fancy-schmancy one.

Maybe I should re-do the lettering for PC; I do have some decals.
