I have a friend with a locomotive Lionel #6-18071 will not respond to TMCC commands. It will run in conventional through a Powermaster fine, but when switched to Command the engine takes off like a Bat out of ****.
Any ideas?

This is an older model with the LCRU2 one-piece electronics. First step is to check the antenna, make SURE it's not grounded and that it's connected to the LCRU antenna connection. Here's the antenna connector.
I have a couple of these in my parts box if you need a replacement.
didn't the first ones go to full speed if they didn't see the TMCC signal?
There was an OGR article by Will that had him working on signal issues like that.
Exactly Joe, even later TMCC models take off with no TMCC signal. When you pop 18V onto a TMCC locomotive that doesn't see the TMCC signal, it's Warp 9 all the way!.
