What's the difference between the Mini Commander EX and the Dummy Locomotive Board??
Replies sorted oldest to newest
There is no documentation for the dummy board, but from the description, it sounds like it just supports lights and couplers. All I see on it is a line on the PDF order form.
The MiniCommander EX has ditch lights, smoke, couplers, and a serial output for RailSounds.
I'm thinking the dummy board is an artifact left over from old products. Of course, for the real scoop, drop a line to ERR.
The Mini X will not support railsounds. The Dummy will support railsounds, thats the newest board.

There's no documentation at all on the dummy on ERR, so I assume it's probably not a current product. I've never seen one...
Very current, look on the price sheet under MiniCmdrX. I have them in stock. These have been out about two years now.

It is the upgrade of the older LCRX, which was Lionels first board that was TMCC based and would control directional Lights, and Couplers and it had the RS 4 pin output. IT was like an LCRU without the motor driver section.
Later it was used in crewtalk cabooses, than Lionel went with a full R2LC for Crewtalk Caboose and Dummy engines. Since than I have seen the LCRX come back for later Water tenders to control coupler and light. I assume this is the latest version for ERR. G
I see it in the price sheet, but no documentation.
I've used the RCDR, but I didn't realize they called that the MiniCmdrX. Like I said, there is no documentation for it on the ERR site, I got Ken to email me the same sheet you posted when I got them. The RCDR certainly isn't listed as the MiniCmdrX anywhere I see, so I don't know how anyone reading the descriptions on the ERR site would know.

I didn't say they where the called MiniCmdX. I said they are listed under the MiniCmdX on the price list. The RCDR is listed as the DmLocoBrd.

So where's the documentation or anything on the MiniCmdrX on the ERR site?
Bill, please don't assume I'm that dense, clearly I know where the MiniCommander EX documentation is. We were talking about the "dummy" board, were we not?

Thanks for the info. All I want the Dummy Loco Board for is LED lights and future sound.
The RCDR should do the trick for that task. Apparently, that's listed as the DmLocoBrd on the order form. AFAIK, you have to mail those orders as it doesn't appear on the web order form.
Folks,
Sorry some of our boards are not well documented. Besides limited time by me to update the Electric RR website, some boards are just low sales volume and it takes time to prioritize and propagate to the website. We inform our dealers, such as Boxcar Bill, and assist them to spread the word.
Jon, I do realize you have a full plate, so the issue is certainly understandable. If you just had a basic description of each on the website I think it would go a long ways toward eliminating the confusion. I find it confusing just to figure out what is actually available and what it's named. For most folks that are using these boards in upgrades, the single page like Bill posted for the RCDR is usually sufficient.
